This customer called us up and told us that they had a bid for another company and was told it would cost $to fix the leaks caused by old galvanized pipes We told them that we were a time and material company When we got there we found the old galvanized pipe and worked several hours even going past our business hours to repair it without charging them overtime hours Upon testing the leak, we discovered another leak and advised the customer to replace the old line rather than to keep repairing it They paid the bill and we scheduled them to come back but because of our busy schedule we came back two days later That is the day she is complaining about We sent a licensed plumber out with a helper to repair the leaks Much of the bill was also materials used plus the hours of laborThe labor involved jack hammering concrete My plumbing broke the old concrete out and dug under it so the repair could be made being careful not to break the newer concrete so the patching would look nice Neither the husband or the wife was there when the repair was done We had to leave the job early because of our scheduling and our plumber talked to the husband telling him that he had to leave and that upon testing that repair that there was another leak so we would return the next day which was SaturdayHe also told him the cost of the work done We left the water on to the house The wife called Saturday upset because water was gushing out and my plumber told her that he would be there as soon as he finished his other job but wasn't sure how long it would take The husband called back saying they found someone else that could come out right away The wife called our office complaining about the bill, telling us that she was a contractor and she knew how long repair should have taken My plumber is a licensed plumber and has been plumbing for years with both his father and grandfather in the plumbing trade In Washington state, it is required that to be a plumber you have to have hours of training and pass a test To be a contractor all you need is a bond and the money to pay for a license, no experience necessary As said before, neither the husband or the wife bother to be there to see what was going on and we had done previous work twice before at their home
