On March 5th we received your inquiry regarding [redacted]'s complaint about a cemetery representative visiting his mother's home. Let me start by sharing a few facts.
Mrs. [redacted]'s sister purchased items through the cemetery to take care of her final arrangements. She thought her...
sister, [redacted]'s mother, would be interested in completing her arrangements also. She actually referred us to Mrs. [redacted], giving us contact information. Mrs. [redacted] apparently did have an interest because she set an appointment.During the appointment, the people present were Mrs. [redacted], her sister (who referred us), her live-in boyfriend and our representative. My understanding is that Mrs. [redacted], who may be 93 years old but lives independently, wanted to take care of her final arrangements because she wanted to make sure she has a traditional ground burial. She does not want to be cremated.
Unfortunately, I am unable to ask the original representative for additional information about her appointment with Mrs. [redacted] because she is no longer with our company. This is the reason her manager called several days later for a follow-up. Mrs. [redacted] still expressed interest in completing her arrangements but she and her son disagree about spending the money. There wasn't any kind of notation in the file that Mr. [redacted] had asked us not to contact his mother. If a note had been made, I can assure you, we would not have called her again.
On Monday, March 2nd, at 12:30pm, [redacted] called our office and wanted to speak to someone in charge. was the only manager in the building so I took his call. He was so irate that it was difficult for me to get his name, not to mention the name of his mother. He kept yelling that he didn't want anyone to contact his mother and he would take legal action if we called her. I told him I needed her name in order to make sure no one contacted them. He finally did give me her name so I could research his complaint and complete his request. He never mentioned to me that a previous request had been made to anyone. I left a “no contact” message for the Marketing Manager and put a note on Mrs. [redacted]'s lot card. If you will notice, this is the same date you received the initial complaint.
Unfortunately, there is some discrepancy between the wishes of Mrs. [redacted] and the wishes of her son. As I stated, we did not originally contact Mrs. [redacted], we were asked by one of her family members to meet with her. Also, the money issue and writing checks is a family issue and a point of contention between mother and son. We do not wish to be a party to family disputes, and have noted in the appropriate places not to contact her.
