Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 10, 2016/03/11) */ I Rita [redacted] of Promiseland Designs am responding to the complaint of [redacted] We were contacted by Ms [redacted] and made the trip down to Bismarck from Hazen to look at her couch and give her a quotewe did that in which I informed her that if she bought her own fabric we'd charge her $to $to do the couch but if there were found to be broken springs or wood or other things needed they would be seperate and she agreedI also informed her she needed yards of fabric unless she bought something that needed lining up such as plaids or strips, in which she would need to get and a half to yards morewe then left and I guessing it was all of a month or so later her husband and herself brought the couch up to Hazen to my businessAt this time she told me she was in no hurry and I responded with thats good as I have several other items I'm going to get done firstShe seemed to agreeAround mid October she called and asked about her couch as she stated her mother was ill and she really needed her couchWe set aside other items and started on her couchThis is the first time I really looked at her fabric as she brought it here in a grey plastic coverIt appeared to be good fabric however it also had strips, and there was a packing slip that at the inital time of opening I set aside and didn't look atShe didn't want me to use new stuff as far as new stuffing or foamSo with that being said I restuffed the seat cushions with the original foam and the pillow backs with the original battingAs most people know , when you disturb packed fiber fill/batting, it becomes fluffier but will work itself back to that packed way after usage for a whileShe called again around November and wanted her couch because again her mother was ill and I told her we were working on it and it would be done soon She also informed me that she would pay extra to line up the fabric, which I was doing anyway, and she wanted two inches extra added to the bottom of the skirting as she was going to have her husband put two by fours under the legs of the couch because she said it sat to lowI acknowedged that request and continued on the couchWe got the couch completed except for the skirting in which then I looked at her packing slip and discovered that she had only purchased the yardsBeing this fabric was a strip, I wondered then why she did not purchase the extra I had informed her ofI at this time called her and let her know that the couch was done with the exception of the skirting in which we'd be short fabricShe questioned me as to whether we could just put skirting on the front and sides and I said no I done have enough to try and line up the lines for skirting even just for the front and sides , she needed to get more or she could just eliminate the skirting all together the choice was hersI also gave her the packing slip information at that timeAround a week later she called the shop and my husband answered and again gave her all the packing sheet informationAround a couple days later she called requesting we send her a sample of the fabric , in which we did right away that same dayIt was approxa month later we received the two extra yards she must of ordered and we promptly finished up her couchAt this time how ever we had another couch in here that we did have to put we did have to put new foam in and my husband had both invoices laying side by side so when she called and asked the amount owed for her couch he must of just glanced over at the invoices and told her the wrong price by accident, but she called back later and I told her then it was $because we couldn't use her old cording, or decking/ lining material and had to used some of oursAnd we also had to tighten up a few springs for herShe seemed fine with that and sent her husband and nephew up to get the couch with her check for $Her husband and nephew said they liked the couch and several clients that saw it finished also liked it a lotI also post pictures on my facebook page and got likesThe same evening that she received her couch she called and questioned me about the fluffiness of the back cushions, I told her they will flatten out with usage as they are like a pillow you throw in the washer, it comes out real fluffy also because the filling is disturbed and has to used or basically beaten downIt was approx a week later when she stopped payment on her checkI contacted [redacted] of the [redacted] of Bismarck and she told me to call her back and offer a discount first and see if that would helpI did call her and she seemed to be in a rampage going on and on about having to do my job and again I informed her that the back cushions will flatten out with useThen she decided to say there were stains on the couch and how she needed that couch because her mother passed away etc I told her I was sorry about her mother however that had nothing to do with the couch and that the couch did not have any stains and again the back cushions will flatten out with useI offered her a $discount if she'd sent me a money order or cashiers check within a weekTo this day I haven't received thatSo Initial Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2016/03/11) */
I Rita [redacted] of Promiseland Designs am responding to the complaint of [redacted]. We were contacted by Ms. [redacted] and made the trip down to Bismarck from Hazen to look at her couch and give her a quote. we did that in which I informed her...
that if she bought her own fabric we'd charge her $350 to $400 to do the couch but if there were found to be broken springs or wood or other things needed they would be seperate and she agreed. I also informed her she needed 13 yards of fabric unless she bought something that needed lining up such as plaids or strips, in which she would need to get 1 and a half to 2 yards more. we then left and I guessing it was all of a month or so later her husband and herself brought the couch up to Hazen to my business. At this time she told me she was in no hurry and I responded with thats good as I have several other items I'm going to get done first. She seemed to agree. Around mid October she called and asked about her couch as she stated her mother was ill and she really needed her couch. We set aside other items and started on her couch. This is the first time I really looked at her fabric as she brought it here in a grey plastic cover. It appeared to be good fabric however it also had strips, and there was a packing slip that at the inital time of opening I set aside and didn't look at. She didn't want me to use new stuff as far as new stuffing or foam. So with that being said I restuffed the seat cushions with the original foam and the pillow backs with the original batting. As most people know , when you disturb packed fiber fill/batting, it becomes fluffier but will work itself back to that packed way after usage for a while. She called again around November and wanted her couch because again her mother was ill and I told her we were working on it and it would be done soon . She also informed me that she would pay extra to line up the fabric, which I was doing anyway, and she wanted two inches extra added to the bottom of the skirting as she was going to have her husband put two by fours under the legs of the couch because she said it sat to low. I acknowedged that request and continued on the couch. We got the couch completed except for the skirting in which then I looked at her packing slip and discovered that she had only purchased the 13 yards. Being this fabric was a strip, I wondered then why she did not purchase the extra I had informed her of. I at this time called her and let her know that the couch was done with the exception of the skirting in which we'd be short fabric. She questioned me as to whether we could just put skirting on the front and sides and I said no I done have enough to try and line up the lines for skirting even just for the front and sides , she needed to get more or she could just eliminate the skirting all together the choice was hers. I also gave her the packing slip information at that time. Around a week later she called the shop and my husband answered and again gave her all the packing sheet information. Around a couple days later she called requesting we send her a sample of the fabric , in which we did right away that same day. It was approx. a month later we received the two extra yards she must of ordered and we promptly finished up her couch. At this time how ever we had another couch in here that we did have to put we did have to put new foam in and my husband had both invoices laying side by side so when she called and asked the amount owed for her couch he must of just glanced over at the invoices and told her the wrong price by accident, but she called back later and I told her then it was $500 because we couldn't use her old cording, or decking/ lining material and had to used some of ours. And we also had to tighten up a few springs for her. She seemed fine with that and sent her husband and nephew up to get the couch with her check for $500. Her husband and nephew said they liked the couch and several clients that saw it finished also liked it a lot. I also post pictures on my facebook page and got likes. The same evening that she received her couch she called and questioned me about the fluffiness of the back cushions, I told her they will flatten out with usage as they are like a pillow you throw in the washer, it comes out real fluffy also because the filling is disturbed and has to used or basically beaten down. It was approx a week later when she stopped payment on her check. I contacted [redacted] of the [redacted] of Bismarck and she told me to call her back and offer a discount first and see if that would help. I did call her and she seemed to be in a rampage going on and on about having to do my job and again I informed her that the back cushions will flatten out with use. Then she decided to say there were stains on the couch and how she needed that couch because her mother passed away etc. I told her I was sorry about her mother however that had nothing to do with the couch and that the couch did not have any stains and again the back cushions will flatten out with use. I offered her a $50 discount if she'd sent me a money order or cashiers check within a week. To this day I haven't received that. So at present, we have not been paid for anything from her.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 12, 2016/03/15) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When Rita was in my home she quoted me 350 dollars for labor on my sofa. I had a sample of the fabric I would be using at my home when she told me how much fabric to order so she was aware of the pattern. I did contact Rita a few months later because I had not heard from her. I never called Rita and told her I needed my sofa . I think I always told her no hurry. This complaint is not about how long it took her to do the job but the quality of her work. My mother got sick at the beginning of November and passed away November 8 so during this very difficult week I did not take time to call Rita. I told Rita I wanted 2 inches added to the skirt at the meeting we had in my home. Rita never mentioned to me using new stuffing or foam in my cushions. The only time she contacted me during the 6 months she had my sofa was when she needed the additional fabric. I dis contact her immediately when I seen my couch, because it looks bad. My cushions are not fluffy they are lumpy. I stopped payment on the check 3 days later because instead of being able to enjoy my sofa I was thinking about what it would take to resolve the problems with it. Never did Rita offer to fix any of the problems. Rita did call me when she found out I had stopped payment on my check. She did offer me a fifty dollar discount if I sent her a money order or cashiers check. I don't know how I could have rampaged and went on and on when she told me what she had to say and then hung up on me.
