performed the repair as diagnosed with approval from the customer. This is a repair that many times creates a customer to be frustrated with the process and we do try to explain to the best of our ability what has happened.Oil traps are a common repair especially older cars like Mrs. [redacted]. The problem is twofold when they fail, first you have to replace the oil trap which is not a difficult repair. However when they fail they cause back pressure in the motor and can cause a number of seals and gaskets to blow out or start to leak. We always replace the blown gaskets and bid the job accordingly, however many times the other seals will start leaking sometime after the car leaves here. When this happens we many times get the complaint that we did not complete the repair and that is just not true. Worst case scenario is it can cause failure into the timing cover area causing damage to the timing belt. If we priced the job to replace every possible gasket that could of been affected we would be overcharging many of our customers and we just aren't a company that does that. In this case we have a 14 year old car with 131,000 miles on it that probably needs more repairs that need to be done not related to the previous repair. We sympathize with Mrs. [redacted] situation and appreciate her bringing it to our attention so we can get better at explaining this repair to our future customers.Sincerely,[redacted]
