I reject this response because it deceptively puts the blame on the seller as opposed to Powell's dubious practice of pricing used books on some fictitious criteria I believe Powell's uses this scheme as a method to purposely save money as a business through essentially defrauding sellers The initial quote which is really a fraction of their resale value already affords these used book stores a nice return on the books resale Low balling sellers even further insures Powell's saves money and gets and even greater return This practice is by powells is also well documented by other users on review sites such as RipOff Report.com and Yelp In addition, I sold used books to other online retailers: [redacted] All of the above retail book buyback programs PAID me the same exact amount originally quoted All books were in similiar condition to those sold to Powells In fact, Powells exaggerated the condition of the books I sold in order to try and justify their fraud I sold exactly books to Powells in this buyback order I keep detailed records Only one book, which I purchased used, Medieval Europe: A Short History by Charles Warren Hollister had highlighting The others were in excellent and generally used condition as many I purchased brand new and was the only owner such as Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by Perkins, John, Ed Gein -- Psycho! by Woods, Paul Anthony and especially, Moral Man and Immoral Society: Study in Ethics and Politics by Niebuhr, Reinhold which was read once and stored on a shelf The John Zerzan books had no marks or highlights and were purchased used in excellent condition Not ONE book was rejected by Powell's so that is a lie I appreciate the refund but this is an excuse to cover up fraud Powell's buyback is well KNOWN to defraud sellers Just search on Google and read the reviews I will never buy or sell books to Powell's again I paid top dollar and selling it at a fraction already only to be further defrauded is not a deal or a bargain Shame on Powell's! *[redacted] Medieval Europe: A Short HistoryCharles Warren Hollister Ed Gein -- Psycho!Woods, Paul Anthony Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Sincerely, [redacted]

Hello, This customer originally contacted us on 4/12/with the following email: Hello - can you confirm my sell order status for payment? Confirmation number# *** & UPS# *** According to the tracking it was received: Delivered On: Friday, 04/07/at 9:
A.MLeft At: Dock Received By: *** Regards We responded to him with the following information: If the UPS tracking information indicates that your order has been delivered, and the online status shows that it has not yet been received, this means that your package has arrived at our warehouse and is waiting to be processedDue to the large number of packages that we receive, it may take up to business days after your package arrives for it to be openedWe will send you a confirmation email as soon as your order is processed and payment is issued The customer contacted us again on 4/17/asking about the status of his online buyback. We processed the customer’s online buyback the afternoon of 4/17/ Before submitting online buybacks to us, sellers are required to click a checkbox acknowledging that they have read our condition standards and that they understand our terms of agreement Our used book buying condition guidelines can be viewed at the following link: http://www.powells.com/SellBooks/SellBooksOnline/ConditionStandards Per these guidelines, we do not accept books that have writing and/or highlighting of any kindThis applies to any part of the book, including its covers and dust jacket. Additionally, we do not accept books that have water damage in the form of wavy or brittle pages. Our terms of agreement state: Original bids are subject to inspection of those books upon arrivalPowell's reserves the right to adjust bids as necessaryIn the event that an original bid is changed, Powell's will notify the seller with the reason but will not return the book(s) in question to a seller… We will not buy books in less than what we consider to be good condition… Any books that arrive in a condition we consider not to be good will be reduced in price and/or removed from the original bid During processing, four of the books were rejected due to condition. Three of these books contained highlighting and writing. The remaining book showed signs of water damage Additionally, we adjusted the price of another book from $to $due to minor highlighting and writing within the book The remaining three books were accepted for the quoted amount of $4.50, bringing the total payment to $5.00. As a one-time courtesy, we are issuing this customer the additional $that was quoted in the initial offer. These funds will be sent to the customer via PayPal and should be received within 1-business days Please let me know if you would like any additional information Best, Ashley E*** Customer Service Manager Powell’s Books
