I'm a landlord and my tenant had a bedbug issued in my rental Property, so I call a Poulin Pest Control do a full treatment. So August 31 they came and did a treatment and after two weeks my tenants call me said still found alive bedbugs So we waited for a week to see if the treatment is still in effect. After I got a letter invoice charging $411 and they wrote stating that they did not find any bedbug alive or dead so I was shock to hear that they didn't find any bedbug. After two week My Tenant's call me again they said they still found bed bug alive , so I'm Assuming they didn't do the job at all or didn't do a good job. So in the morning I called them to see what they could do they told me that I have to do another treatment and they would charge me another $400 again so I ask them you don't guarantee Your service they said no. So I was surprised to hear that in three weeks that they don't guarantee their service. So I talk to the management he was no help at all. *** this business *** do not guarantee work at all.

Poulin's Pest Control Response • Oct 03, 2019

To the Revdex.com,

Treating bed bugs is a very big undertaking. When people call Poulin"s Pest Control, we always inform the customers at the time of booking that on average 3 to 4 treatments may be required to totally eliminate bed bug infestations. Certainly extreme infestations require even more treatments. As well, tenant co-operation makes a huge impact on the number of treatments and the results for getting rid of bed bugs.
Our Pest Management Professional(PMP) attended to your tenant's location on August 31, 2019, did a complete inspection and treatment and found no signs of live or dead bed bugs at the time. The PMP also placed out new dated monitors and recommended a follow up in 10 to 14 days. The customer stated he waited for 3 weeks and then called asking for another treatment to be done, which we would be more than happy to do, however each treatment is a chargeable service as there is no guarantee as to how many treatments will be needed to eliminate the bed bug problem. The customer needs to call us to schedule the follow up date as we have know way of knowing what date is good for them.
Poulin's Pest Control is more than pleased to offer a follow up chargeable service to the location. We are not prepared to refund the treatment or offer any free service treatment.

Thank you

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When we call Poulin customer service, we where never inform that we might need a second treatment or more or would be charge for extra treatment and they didn't even advise us that they don't guaranteed there service. So we assumed they would get rid of the pest and would guaranteed there work, because we know others company's would guarantee there work or your money back if your not satisfied.
If a company never guaranteed there work they know they didn't do the first time the right way, but a company that guaranteed there work they know they did the right way and would back there service they do.
Also the exterminator person never even found even one bed bugs in that 4 hrs they were there, so what does that tell you.

Poulin's Pest Control Response • Oct 29, 2019

We have been in business for over 70 years, all our customer service staff are well trained and always advise customers, on average 3-4 treatments are required to totally eliminate bed bugs and that is with customer co-operation. We also state there can be no guarantee for this type of service, it requires follow up and each service call is chargeable, we make that very clear.

We wish to file a complaint with the Revdex.com against Poulin's Pest Control located at 24 Poulin Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2H OS9. We asked Poulin's Pest Control to help us with a mouse problem we had in our attic. Their first visit was on January 10,2017. Their last visit was August 11, 2017. During this time, they failed to provide what their name states - pest control. They not only failed to control the mice but they also made a complete mess of our attic. If you throw 548 Contrac bait bags all over someone's 1056 square foot attic, you can be sure that mice will make a complete mess of that attic. Poulin's did this. After 8 months of their failing to help us control the mouse population and even their admitting that mice should have no interest in being in our attic in the summer months, we lost all confidence in their ability to provide pest control. We still had mice in our attic and our attic was a total mess. On his last visit on August 11,2017, James, the technician, suggested that we might have to have the total contents of our attic removed but then proceeded to put 174 more Contrac Bait Bags in our attic and charge us $245.78. We trusted this company to help us. We have since paid to have the entire contents of our attic removed and re-insulated. The cost of this amounted to $8925.00. This only touches on the monetary costs. Trying to have a normal night's sleep, trying to prepare a meal while listening to mice, trying to have a quiet dinner or a quiet cup of coffee became difficult. Over time, this caused a great deal of mental anguish.

We have sent photocopies of all the Poulin's invoices and the receipt for our attic restoration. We have also included a copy of the original letter we sent to Poulin's. When I (Shelly ***) spoke to Lincoln Poulin on November 21, 2017, he was willing to offer us $333.00 to settle this matter. A more reasonable amount would be $998.66, which includes the service we paid for and did not receive and the ineffective Contrac bait bags paid for that did not control the mice and made a complete mess of our attic.

We thank you for your assistance. We do not want anyone else to have this happen to them.

Sincerely,

Shelley and Michael ***

We request a full refund of the money we paid you to take care of the mouse problem in our attic. Your first visit (Form #***) was on January 10, 2017. Your last visit was on August 11, 2017. During this time, you failed to control this mouse problem for two significant reasons. James told us that we could never completely seal off our attic. This is not true. You can install thick gauge mess which allows air moment but defers mice from entry. Also, you have to seal off all other entry points. We have been told by two different exterminator companies that they would seal our attic against mice and that it is key to getting any mouse problem under control *** Since we were told this, we did not completely seal off our attic. you put 548 bags of Contrac Bait Bags in our attic. We have been told by a reliable source that the amount of bait is way too much and that that bait combined with you telling us that we could never seal our attic attracted mice to our attic. This caused the problem to become totally out of control. Both Craig and James said that mice should have no interest in being in your in the summer and we then engaged the services of an *** company.

Since you failed to provide us with service and in fact made the problem worse, we are requesting a full refund of our money.

This registered letter is a call to action. We expect a reply within 10 business days or we will file a complaint with Revdex.com and they will assist us with this complaint.

Sincerely,

Shelley and Michael

Poulin's Pest Control Response

I, Lincoln ***, Vice President of Poulin's Pest Control, spoke with Shelley *** on November 22, 2017. I have reviewed the documents and saw we were out for service on January 10, 2017. This service was our first service at the site and upon inspection in the attic we noticed large infestations of mice. We took the necessary approach and baited the attic with Contrac bait bags. At this time, the mice had caused damage and created a mess in the ***'s attic. During this service, we installed 80 - 43-gram Contrac bait bags in the attic. Unfortunately, due to the time of year, we were unable to complete a detailed inspection on the exterior to locate entry points due to snow.

Poulin's was called back on May 12, 2017, as activity was still reported in the attic. We rebaited the attic and installed exterior bait stations around the property. It was documented that neighbors had bird feeders which provide a food source for mice. When mice have a food source they will then start looking for openings into a structure. It was also noted on our report of May 12, 2017, that the homeowner had sealed a number of holes around the property.

We were called back out on August 1, 2017, and inspected the attic and still found heavy rodent activity. Still having activity indicates an entry point has not been addressed. This service we used 174 - 43-gram Contrac bait bags to eliminate the problem. The Contrac bait bags from the previous services had all been consumed. Contrac Bait bags are mixed with a coated grain and the customer is under the understanding that the mouse ate the grain and not the rodenticide, this is not true as the grain is coated with rodenticide. During the August 1st inspection, it was documented that the attic void/door be closed off with 1/4 inch steel screen. This recommendation was not made in May. Due to this recommendation not being made, Poulin's offered a refund for the May service of $333, plus taxes for a total of $369.17, for our mistake.

The customer wants a full refund of the total amount for the January and August services as well as the May service. This is not reasonable as it's not our fault that they had mice in the attic in January. As stated the activity in January was already high activity. The removal of insulation and having it reinsulated and the related cost has no responsibility to Poulin's. It was not our fault that the mice were in there to begin with. The customer also believes that the 43-gram Contrac bait bags in the attic attracted more mice into the attic. It has been scientifically tested by manufacturers, rodent control experts, and our own company, that rodents enter bait stations or structures for shelter. Poulin's wants to be known as a reputable company and will still stand by in offering a refund for the May service work. It should also be noted that we waived the labor costs for the August service and only charged for the product used.

If you require any further information, please feel free to reach out to myself, Lincoln ***.

Customer Response

We stand by our original position and request a full refund as stated in our previous communication.

Poulin's Technicians had eight months to solve a problem that should have taken two to four weeks to get under control. ***. Every Technician that visited our home insisted that the only way to solve our problem was to continue to place Contrac bait bags in our attic and that this problem would require annual service. It got to the point in August 2017, were our vapour barrier and insulation in our homes attic was completely saturated with 548 Contrac bait bags. Most of these Contrac bait bags were not consumed by the mice as stated by Poulin's, but rather opened and scattered throughout the attic. This completely puzzled all the Technicians that came to our home and their Supervisor who not once came to visit our home to follow up on our situation. It is our opinion, that the Supervisor should have come out to reassess the situation at our home. Instead, in an August phone conversation he recommended yet even more poison after first stating we already had way to much Contrac bait in the attic. This is when we the homeowner lost all faith in Poulin's. The Supervisor and his Technicians not once listened nor acted on any of the information we the homeowner provided them. They simply responded by stating what we were saying was not possible, even when presented with sound recording evidence of mice making pecking like sounds above us in the attic day and night.

In October 2017, we had the contents of our homes attic vacuumed out. Contrac bait was littered all over the attic floor.

Poulin's should have placed bait stations housing a variety of different poisons in our attic rather than simply standing on a ladder at the entrance of our attic door and throwing hundreds of the same ineffective Contrac bait bags all over our attic. One Technician stated to us that the poison in these Contrac bags had been reduced due to government regulations and were no longer that effective, hence having to use a large number of bait bags. He stated that Poulin's used to carry their own product which was much more effective but they could no longer use their product due to the new regulations. ***
It should be noted that in the fall, we hired a different Pest Control company that had our problem under control in short order.

Please also note, we should, but are not seeking compensation for the mental anguish that Poulin's *** caused us nor the restoration of our attic which at this point is well over $ 10,000.

Please feel free to contact us, if further clarification is required.

Poulin's Pest Control Response • Jan 09, 2018

Dear Sir or Madam:

As stated in the letter on December 12, 2017, Poulin's Pest Control will not refund the entire amount.

In January, Poulin's was called for a mouse problem in the attic, which is not our fault that mice were in the customer's attic. We provided the appropriate treatment by placing Contrac bait bags into the attic. When we attended in May we overlooked an entry point, which was our mistake. This is why Poulin's is offering a refund for the May treatment. In August, an opening was found and a recommended solution was made to fix that.

Poulin's did manufacture our own bait and it was discontinued in 2017. Contrac bait bags are made by ***, the leader in rodent control products. Contrac bait is a superior product in the pest control industry. *** When mice consume rodent bait in bait bags, it is very common that they will tear the bag open, consume the bait and scatter/spill the bait from the bags. As explained to the homeowner, Contrac grain bait (which is in the bait bags) are all completely coated with poison.
Will still offer the refund for the May treatment but will not offer a full refund.

Sincerely,

Lincoln ***
