In response to the complaint lodged withthe Revdex.com, I would like to take this opportunity to addresseach issueI think that it should be noted that this guest has tried toslandered me on every review site, however almost all of our guests havepraised how wonderful the staff and
management are and how wonderful thePioneer has becomeI am sorry that she is upset that she had to follow therules and that when she didn’t she was fined, but all of our guests areexpected to follow these same, simple basic, courteous rules and those thatdon’t infringe upon everyone else’s comfort. I will agree with a few things she wroteYes,I am the manager and my name is Val, and that is about the only thing that iscorrect with this complaint.I do have a dog, who is a service animaland is well behavedMy dog was by my side and never once did he jump up on anyguestAs a matter of fact, one of the ladies in this group was at the picnictable petting my dog. Asfor our smoking rules, I think it needs to be said that upon check in, thepaying guest is asked to sign the following:-Smokinginside any rooms or on sidewalk in front of rooms is a violation per City ofPalmer, Alaska ordinance No12-Therefore smoking of any kind (cigarettesor marijuana, or vape pens) will be charged a $cleaning feeGuests willalso be asked to leave the property immediately without a refund.-While beingshown to their room, the guests are directed to the picnic table the only areawhere smoking is allowed-Again uponentering the room, guests are shown a sign on the bed that states: Smoking in rooms, on walkways, orin the parking lot, is against the rulesFailure to comply with these ruleswill result in immediate termination of stay without a refund and a fine of atleast $will be imposedI had already explained to them severaltimes the picnic area was the only place to smoke on propertySmoking is notpermitted anywhere elseBy the morning of their second day with us, I hadalready received several complaints from other guests who saw them smoking bytheir door and behind their vehicleSince we are a non-smoking motel, I agreedto refund their neighboring guests for their room rate because they had toclose their windows due to this guest smoking where it was not permitted. Later that morning, I again told them wherethey could and could not smokeThe woman on the phone did not want to come bythe table as she was communicating with her year old mother and claimed itwas too noisy at the tableShe was in the parking lot behind her vehicletalking on the phone when she lite up a cigarette, with no intensions of goingto the smoking areaI told her friend who was at the table if she did not either, put the cigarette out, move off property or to the smoking area I would chargeher $for smoking in an unapproved smoking areaBeing that they were so upset that theywere expected to follow the rules, I offered to find them other accommodations, but since the Alaska State Fair was going on it would be in the town ofWasilla, which is about minutes awayThey declinedUnfortunately, every placein Palmer had no vacancy during the fair, including us. As far as my staff always being at thepicnic table making it “awkward” for them to be there, I think it should alsobe noted that we have rooms that each require housekeeping services, whetherit be for someone checking out or for daily cleaningI have one full timehousekeeper who has been employed since February, another who has been employedsince April and one that was hired just for the FairMy housekeepers areextremely busy and have less than hours to get everything set and ready forthat day’s arrivalThey get one break that lasts for no more than minutes. That is the only time they are at the picnic tableAs for fining six other guests, I do not evenknow where this came fromThey were the only ones who were finedIn the pastmonths, since implementing these rules, I have only charged fines to a totalof three guests including herI give several warnings and restated where thesmoking is allowedI do not just randomly charge guestsMost guests agree tofollow the rules after one warning and there is no reason to have to chargeguestsIf you take the time to read my reviews,(with the exception of ***), I am often complimented for going above andbeyondI do my best to make sure each guest is comfortableWe strive to makethe Pioneer the best it can beI do not nor have I ever extorted money from aguestI simply enforce the rules that we have establishedAttached are: the reg card that the guest signs upon checking ina smoking sign in room and a sign on the bed that states exactly where the smoking area is
