We had an issue with our boiler on 1/27/2018 where our boiler would not turn off and we had a Petcosky and Sons tech come inspect and hopefully fix the problem. He (Darryl) said the valve and pump needed to be replaced and we trusted his professional opinion. He never checked the thermostats or any other possible wiring problems before replacing the parts. My husband and I had to go out so my Mother stayed at the house while he finished the work. I asked him before we left if he would need to access the thermostats (I would have moved our dog into another room if he did) and he said, "no." We paid $1179 and did not receive an invoice (still haven't and asked a manager to send one by e-mail, which has yet to happen). An hour later, our basement started filling with water which was coming from the boiler (never an issue until this tech visited). My husband called the service guy and told him about the leak and his response was, "Wasn't leaking when I left." My husband said, "Well it is now, so you need to fix your job." To which he replied, "I just walked in the door to my home." He eventually showed back up and fixed the leak (which obviously we did not cause as he had insinuated during the phone call). As he was leaving (on second visit) he asked to check the original job he "fixed" and we said sure (thinking shouldn't he have checked it the first time?). And lo and behold, it still wasn't fixed and he actually found the real problem and told us someone would be out Monday to give us a quote on the new repair (wires in a wall that were touching and shorting out the system). The "new" repair that he should have found the first time would be in addition to the $1179 they already charged us. When I spoke to a very rude manager (Chris) on the phone on Monday 1/29/2018, I was told the service guy assumed the problem was fixed because he repaired the "faulty" pump and valve and thought the issue was fixed (again without checking). I asked how was the pump was faulty? He stated something was shorting it out. I said like wires shorting it out. He said, "Well maybe." He said my husband and I agreed to have the pump replaced so we were responsible for it. I said we agreed to have it replaced because we trusted the professional opinion of their service tech. I said put the old "faulty" pump back in and fix the wires that are shorting it (the actual problem the tech found on the second visit) and give me a new price. He said I should have asked for the old pump before the service guy left. I asked how much the valve and pump cost and he said, "I don't know" to which I replied, "You are the manager of this company and you don't know how much parts cost?" He then stated the zone valve cost $364 and the pump cost $335. There was a charge for $150 visit since it was on the weekend which we knew about and an additional erroneous charge of $243 which I was told they would take off the bill, bringing the new total to $916 (plus an additional $425 if we decided to go with them to fix the real problem of the wires shorting out the system). I was told I would get a call back (he told me this at 12:30 pm on 1/29/2018) to hopefully put an end to the bewildering array of what I would consider deceptive trade practices and disrespectful customer service. We have used this company for years, as well as many family members and friends. I understand there is a price for a service as we have paid them many times over the years for satisfactory work and customer care. But this time around was a completely different situation and we feel there was deception and unethical behavior on Petcosky and Sons behalf.

Dear Revdex.com,This letter is in response to the complaint you received regarding our company on 1/30/18.
Petcosky & Sons received a call from the complaintant on 1/27/18. Our emergency technicianarrived at the home to find that the customer's husband had attempted to repair the boilerhimself. Unfortunately, he replaced the zone valve with the incorrect model. The incorrectzone valve jammed and stopped working. Before the technician could even begin to diagnosethe issue, the tech had to change the zone valve. After the zone valve was replaced, hemanually cycled the valve and determined that the valve was working correctly. At this point,he turned the switch back onto the boiler, to find there was no power. The breaker hadtripped. He re-set the breaker to observe sparks flying out of the pump. With furtherdiagnosis, he found that the circulator pump was corroded and shorted (see picture attached),causing the breaker to trip. At this point, he then replaced the circulator pump. Now, at thistime, the technician should have cycled at the thermostat to check system operation, but hedid not. This would possibly have allowed us to see the short in the thermostat wiring sooner, which was another additional issue. We definitely would have worked with the customer tocorrect that situation if she hadn't canceled the check before speaking with us.The customer called back a couple of hours later to report that her basement was filling withwater. When the technician arrived back at the residence, there was a minor leak on the newpump which caused a 3x5 wet spot on the unfinished basement floor. After he repaired theleak, he noticed that there continued to be an issue (possibly the zone valve was not closing). This precipitated him to investigate further. It was at this point he realized there was a short inthe wire. Whoever installed the wire, attached it to the hydronic piping and insulated aroundit. This caused the wire melt and short due to the heat. This happened over a period of time. The zone valve and pump would have had to be changed regardless of this issue.Petcosky & Sons prides itself on the quality work and customer service that we provide to over10,000 customers. While we have never had any complaints regarding this technician or
manager, we do realize that we are not perfect. What we are not, is "deceptive andunethical". If we do make an honest mistake, we take care of it. It was quite apparent early on,dealing with this customer, we were not going to be able to negotiate a fair resolution. Plainand simple, Petcosky and Sons cannot be totally at fault for all of the existing issues asdescribed above on a system we did not Install or service before. While Petcosky and Sons didmake a mistake on this service call, which was outlined above, it would not have changed theoutcome of what needed to be done to get the customer's system back online. As statedearlier, the customer canceled her check before negotiations. Now the customer's system isback online and heating their home for no charge. Due to all of the time and effort we alreadyhad put toward trying to reach a fair solution, we decided that no further action would betaken.
Sincerely,
Michael PetcoskyPresident
On 11/29/17, a pipe burst in my basement and water was leaking on the floor. I called the company I normally use (rhymes like tooter) and they said they would have someone come over in a day or two. I told them it was an emergency. I called Petcosky and they had a tech over within an hour and fixed the problem. Petcosky will be my go to company from now on.
