I am counsel to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Inc(PETA), writing in response to your letter regarding this complaintPETA attempted to remove Ms [redacted] 's name from its database in response to each of her requests, but she may have nonetheless received mail from PETA because a slightly different form of her name was given to PETA by other like-minded groups and/or organizationsIn order to help nonprofit organizations grow and get their messages out to the public, like-minded organizations, magazines, and catalogue companies may periodically exchange lists of members' namesAnytime another organization provided a slightly different version of Ms [redacted] ’s name to PETA, that name may not have been caught by PETA’s suppression database, as it can only track and suppress mailings for names exactly as they appear in the database.Please assure Ms [redacted] that PETA has now manually added her full name as it appears on this complaint to its database to prevent future mailingsPlease also share with Ms [redacted] that she can take a further step to prevent future mailings, in case other organizations have different iterations of her nameMs [redacted] can add her name to a national database of “no mail' names, which is Maintained by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA)The DMA is a national trade association of direct-mail users that maintains a list called the "Mail Preference List,” in which they note the names and addresses of people who wish to be removed from circulation, Ifat all possible, she should replicate her name and address exactly as they appear on any and all mailing labels she has received:Direct Marketing Association Mail Preference Service [redacted] New York, NY ###-###-#### www.the-dima.orgPETA would also like to suggest that Ms [redacted] contact all groups to which she contributes and ask then not to exchange her name with other groupsPlease share with Ms [redacted] that we apologize for any inconvenience
