Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/07/01) */
Contact Email: [redacted]@gmail.com
I was working in a unit near [redacted]'s home and she requested an estimate for a number of rooms to be painted. I have attached my original estimate ($1,791.25). [redacted] told me she could not afford that...
amount and because it was a slow season, I decided to make her a deal. The adjusted estimate is also attached ($1,180). The total difference was approximately 34% of the original estimate.
Upon completing the work, there were a couple of touch ups that needed to be done. I had picked up some work from another contractor and was short handed, which caused a delay in my getting back to [redacted]. I apologized and offered a two day window with which we could complete the remaining touch ups, which I estimated to take 1-2 hours. I understand that [redacted] works during the day, but when I worked at her house previously, she was home at least half of the day every day. So I figured it wouldn't be a problem. She did not offer me an alternative date to complete the touch ups. Instead, she only requested a paid receipt. I believe this was on a Friday. I intended to respond the following Monday, but before I got home she had already sent me expletive text messages about the paid receipt. I can provide copies of the text messages if needed. I promptly sent her receipt that evening. The next day, without checking her email, she sent me more threatening text messages.
Aside from the touch ups, when I last was at her home, the work was completed. She later sent pictures with the letter she refers to in her complaint which do not reflect the condition of the job when I left. I NEVER LEFT ANY EXPOSED WIRES IN HER HOME. She asked me several times to change a light fixture, but I wouldn't agree to do it because I'm not comfortable with doing electrical work without an electrician on site.
There was an excessive amount of patch work to be completed in [redacted]'s house, which was reflected in my first estimate. [redacted] seems to want to hold my feet to the fire for every little imperfection while at same time forgetting that I went above and beyond in other areas of this job. For example, I stayed late on a Friday to assemble furniture that was delivered that day so she could use her living room for the weekend, I painted an extra accent wall in her kitchen, and I color schemed the rooms I was painting (which she was very pleased with).
Originally in the letter [redacted] sent me, she requested a refund of $320 for the 1-2 hours of touch ups. Now she's requesting almost $400. If you combine $400 with the $600 discount I gave her, that's $1000 off of a $1791 estimate. Myself and two crew members spent over 60 total man hours working in her home.
She was very nice when we worked in her home. I don't know why she seems so angry, other than my 2 week delay in getting to her touch ups, I thought the job went very well. I apologized when the delay was brought to my attention and offered to fix the touch ups. Since then she's been abusive, and doing everything she can to defame my character and my business. She has gone as far as to hysterically (per the chair of the group) call my business lead's group and trying to get me kicked out.
I feel that her efforts to sabotage my livelihood are more than payment for any touch ups that she did not give me the opportunity to complete.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I live in a small community of 10 homes. Personal Touch 4 U was contracted to stain the cedar wood exteriors and paint the exteriors of 4 of the 10 homes. Andy provided competitive bids that were accepted by the owners. We had at different times in the past had hired painters to complete the jobs with varying degrees of quality.
Andy's team were the most thorough and conscientious painters we ever employed. They provided carpentry services to areas where cedar siding was worn and needed replacing; they matched the mandated community colors and where flexibility was allowed, suggested complementary accent colors. They left each owner with cans of color to match each stain used on their home.
