Review: I enrolled for online classes on August 25, 2014. I called the next day on the 26th and cancelled the original program I chose and started a new program. While talking with the gentleman on the phone, he told me the $50.00 would be refunded to me within 72 hours. After 3 days, I still hadn't received my refund. I called again and the lady said it takes up to 10 days. So I waited and checked my bank account Friday the 5th and still no refund. I called again and was told that they only process refunds certain times of the month. Every single time I have called this "school", I get the runaway and never get a solid answer as to when I will receive my refund.Desired Settlement: All I want is my $50.00 returned back to my account ASAP! That's it! Then I want nothing to do with this so called "school".

Review: I went Penn Foster 2012 for my high school diploma. I completed their program. I even got a degree in the mail with transcripts. They have verified this diploma for two years with no issues. As my current employer verified the degree they told them I was enrolled. How could I be enrolled when I have a college degree and I have a High School diploma from them? It comes to find out there was a balance on my account that I was never notified of. As soon as I became aware I paid the full balance at that time I was told that my employer could verify and it should be good to go. My employer calls they still tell them I am in enrolled. I made this payment on 08/01/2014 which was a Friday in amount $1286.60. When I gave them a call to see why they have told my employer this they stated I have to wait 14-30 days before this updated. I was upset because I was told before I made the payment that everything would be cleared. I spoke with supervisor at the billing department she stated the earliest she could do it was 08/07/2014. It is not 08/07/2014 and there is still a hold on my account. I called the billing department every day since Friday. Billing has advised me that they have sent my payment over and my payment was cleared. I then called to school and they told me today 08/07/2014 at 9:00am that the hold will be lifted and this came from their supervisor and to give it two hours. Now mind you during this time I am letting my employer know the status and they are waiting for this verification. My job depends on this. Not even hour later I get a call not from the supervisor but a employee that they will not be able to take the hold off. I call to get more detail I advised that they never got the payment from the billing. I began to explain that they have and billing told me you got it Monday. They then changed their story and stated they have to wait 10 business days so I do not cancel the payment because they bank allows 10 days cancel. So here is my problem. How do you tell someone that on 08/07/2014 that there hold will be lift and then not hold to your end of the agreement, but then tell me you basically not putting my payment on my account because you do not want me to cancel it. You are lying and covering up that you did not get my payment when indeed you have. You are playing with my livelihood with my job.Desired Settlement: I want this hold lifted today 08/07/2014 but 4:00pm like I was promised. I want upper management to be aware of the lies that re being told and the betray that you are showing your customers that are trying to attend your school. I want this done today. If this is not done and I lose my job I will get a lawyer. Instead having your employees call me you need to return your call yourself being a manager.

Review: We signed our son up to attend the online classes with PENNFOSTER with the understanding of a charge of $75. If he wished to continue the course then we would be able to pay monthly payments or in full. It took my husband three times calling them to actually cancel the course. We received a letter stating we owe $325.20. I called and spoke with a supervisor explained the situation. Along with explaining each time my husband called he was told we owe nothing. They have called us multiply times and continue to send us collection letters. The supervisor called us liars and that we still owe the money. I told her we will not be paying the $325.20 because we were told we did not owe it. Now in one day each of us received multiple phone calls. It is starting to become more of a harassment than anything else. We do not owe the money and won't pay it. We need help.Desired Settlement: We would like them to stop billing us for the $325.20. We are willing to pay $75 (which we don't have) just to have them stop. Our credit is wonderful and don't want them to ruin it.

Review: I was studying in Penn Foster when my disabled son got very sick. I signed up with their Medical Assistant course. I called explained that I could not get into the website because my son was in critical condition. Shortly after that I was out of work because the company went out of business I called again explained that I would delay the payments until I got a job again well the total was 100.00 that I owed and I had to pay them that amount for I was just 2 months behind in payments. The charges were 49.00 monthly so with interest I guess it went up to 50 and by owing 2 months that would go up to 100.00 I had called and made arrangements with the student services personal and they told me as soon as that was paid I would be good I tried to get online and finish my Associates Degree as a Medical assistant when I could not log in. I Called back told them how I was unable to pay because I could not log in my student online classes. The rep called [redacted] told me it was ok that I could pay over the phone and that they would look into this issue. I never got a call and I got a letter from a collection agency stating that I owed 900.00 dollars. The total of the cost of the course was 1200.00 and the amount already paid by me and even the 100.00 were deducted and that I had to pay at least 300.00 more dollars if I wanted to be reinstated into school I paid the 300.00 and I called and they told me that they needed me to pay more and then they would reinstate me back in school I owe less than 200.00 total to the debt I have not received any materials I am not allowed to get into my student account and I called then they told me if I wanted to continue it would have to cost me because its been more than a year and that they have updated all of their courses I explained that the reason why it took so long was because they would not reinstate me back and I just kept paying with hopes that they would eventually reinstate me back I have not heard from them any more at first when I owed them a a bigger amount they were non stop calling now that I am almost finished paying they do not call me send me any letters or emails.Every time I call they give me a bunch of lies and wrong info non of any value so now I am out of 1000.00 dollars I do not have access to my student page I did not get any materials and if I do not continue to pay they take me to collections.I would like my money back !Desired Settlement: I just want my money back I am starting to believe they are not a real college and I would like to enroll in a real college. I would like my 1000.00 back and for them not to place me under collections or continue to ruin my credit.

Review: On 4-3-2013 I signed up for online classes with Penn Foster. I paid $50.00 up front and selected to mail or pay my payments online when able. They however put my account as AutoDebit from my bank account, which resulted in a NFS fee hitting my account on 5-3-2013 when they took another $50.00 from my account with out my permission.
I called Penn Foster back on 4-19-2013 because I had not received any books and asked to just cancel account and get my $50.00 back.
I was told they would not refund me and to just wait for my books.
I told them I wanted my money back and to cancel account, then said if I cancelled I would still have to pay them:
$200.00 for the Registration Fee,
$75.00 Admission fee,
and $65.00 for shipping and handing (which on their site it clearly states FREE SHIPPING AND HANDLING on http://www.pennfoster.edu/programs-and-degrees/veterinary-studies/veterinary-tec...⇄ />
plus would have to pay around $250 for the first course that I haven't done anything on. They claimed I took test already, which was impossible because I hadn't even received my books from them, I didn't get my books until 4-24-2013. I haven't taken any test but it is now showing scores like I have, they are trying to make it look like I've done work that I haven't done.
What a rip off. False advertising. Hidden Charges. Unauthorized charges.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund immediately of the $100.00 paid so far. Plus compensation for the $17.00 I was charged by my bank for the unauthorized charge for the 5-3-2013 payment they took. Account completely closed and NO more charges charged to bank account/debit card. I am not going to pay for something I am no longer interested in and can't do.
Please just give me money back and don't charge me anything else.
I explained the reason I can't take the course right now, is because my mother is dying and needs constant care. I don't have the time. Also I can't afford it, especially if they going to take money from my account when they please with out my permission.

To Whom It May Concern:
I welcome the opportunity to address [redacted]’s concerns. [redacted] enrolled in our Veterinary Technician Associate Degree Program on April 5, 2013 by submitting a down payment and a signed enrollment agreement.
Students who complete more than ten percent and up to twenty-five percent of their exams owe twenty-five percent of the tuition including the registration, admissions and shipping fees. This is stated on [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement. [redacted] completed nineteen percent of her exams; therefore, she owes twenty-five percent of the tuition including the fees previously mentioned. [redacted] signed up for the automatic payment plan, as stated on her signed enrollment agreement.
[redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement also states that with the full payment plan we waive $275.00 of the tuition and the shipping and handling fee and with the automatic payment plan, we will waive $165.00 of the tuition which is the case for [redacted].
As a courtesy, I have cancelled [redacted]’s account with no further financial obligations. I have attached a copy of [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement for the Revdex.com to review.

Review: I enrolled in Penn Foster in 2012, I lost my job and had to stop attending and file Chapter 7. After I got back on my feet I re-enrolled in March of 2013 , paid $39.00 intial fee. I was then told that in order to re-enroll I would have to get permission from the court which would cost alot of money so I told them I would pursue another institution. I asked about my refund and was told it would take 2 weeks. Called after two weeks as was told it was being processed. Now on 5/30/2013, I still have not recieved my refund.Desired Settlement: I would just like for them to refund my amount paid!

Review: They told me one thing, and I got another!! For example, they told me before I signed up that I would get hands-on training with a dog trainer in my area, yet after I signed up (soon after) and asked for that, they said it was discontinued. Then they changed it from getting mailed books to digital books without giving me the option to continue with hardback books. Lastly, they said they would send a graduation gift when I sent a reply mail in, but they didn't even do that! They said they no longer had that book and could not replace it with something else.Desired Settlement: I want my entire tuition refunded. I wouldn't have purchased the program if they would have told me up front that they didn't have hands on experience with the program.

I welcome the opportunity to address [redacted]’s concerns. [redacted] enrolled in our Dog Obedience Trainer Career Diploma Program on October 15, 2012 by submitting a signed enrollment agreement and paying in full.
Students completing more than fifty percent of their exams owe the full tuition balance, which is stated on [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement. [redacted] completed one hundred percent of her exams; therefore, she owes the full tuition balance. [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement also states no refunds will be given after twelve months.
It is stated on [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement that we reserve the right to update or substitute course material. On April 12, 2013 we started transitioning our study guide delivery to a fully digital format. As our stocks have depleted, shipments of study guides have ceased. Students will, however, still receive all textbooks and any pertinent materials to their course. [redacted] did receive seven shipments, leaving only four mods that were completely digital study guides.
As a courtesy, we purchased the book from the graduation shipment that we discontinued and mailed to [redacted] on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. She can expect to receive the book early next week.

I am rejecting this response because: I contacted Penn Foster regarding canceling my enrollment in the program early on, as soon as I was told there would be no hands on training. They still refused to work with me on the price or offer the hands on experience. In addition, they did not assist with hardback books when requested. This does NOT satisfy what was promised when I enrolled in the program.

I contacted the business prior to 50% of the classes being completed; however, they still would not provide me with a work experience option. Review: I was looking for a job and I believe an internet job search engine took my personal information causing me to be telemarketed by Penn Foster career school. They told me I would be an optician in one year if I took their online course. They only provided me with a website. No additional materials where provided. After signing up I checked with [redacted] and they told me I would have to be an apprentice for an additional three years after taking the one year Penn Foster course making my total committment a four year committment to be an optician. I checked with the state of Virginia Licensing Board of Opticianry and they agreed with LensCrafters. I was also informed that there was no need to be penalized by taking an online course when all I had to to was enroll at a local community college for two years and I would be an optician. I don't want to be penalized an additional two years for just starting this course in the last three weeks, and I want my money back. The school has refused to give me my money back and wants me to pay an additional $409 in registration fees!Desired Settlement: I want a full refund.

Review: [redacted] I
am rejecting Penn Foster's prewritten response because: If I enrolled in what [redacted] is calling a legitimate Optician's School that they are aware of, like the local community college[redacted], for example, It would only legally take me two years to be a licensed optician in the state of Virginia. By taking a Penn Foster "Optician's Course", according to the State of Virginia's Opticianry Licensing board, I would have to complete an additional three years of full time internship before I would be a licensed optician in the state of Virginia. This effectively makes Penn Foster's "Optician's Course" a four year program. It would be better if their course never existed, as it does nothing for citizens of the state of Virginia, except effectively double the time that it would take to be a licensed optician in the state of Virginia. In addition to taking the one year Penn Foster "Optician's Course" a three year, full time, fourty hour per week apprenticeship must be taken in order to be a Virginia Optician. Attending the optician's course at the local community college produces a licensed Virginia optician in two years. Additionally after four years with the Penn Foster program you don't have a real degree or any degree. After the two year community college course you have an Associates Degree. Please have Penn Foster issue me a full refund as it is not fair that I should be penalized two extra years by taking a Penn Foster course. Thank you for your help in this matter. It is greatly appreciated.

Review: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I was under the impression that I bought an online training course from Penn Foster that would allow me to be a practicing optician within one year. I called in on the Penn Foster 1-800 number and that's what the salesman told me. So I bought the course to be billed on a monthly basis. I then went in to [redacted] and they told me that in order to be a practicing optician I needed two years of education, not one. They had never heard of the Penn Foster school and informed me that to be a practicing optician I needed two years of education, not one. They had never heard of Penn Foster and suggested that I call the State Board of Opticianry to determine the legitimacy of the so called "school" I had signed up for! So I then called up the State of Virginia Board of Licensing for Opticianry. I was then informed that I could take a two year course at the local community college, [redacted], and be a practicing optician, and receive a legitimate associate's degree. This information also concurred with the information I received at [redacted]. The Virginia Board of Licensing for Opticianry also informed me that if I took the one year Penn Foster course, (This is a point of record.) I would have to work as an apprentice optician for 3 additional years. In other words, in order to be a practicing optician with the Penn Foster course I would be taking a four year program to be a practicing optician instead of the one year program they advertised. So I bought a course that was supposed to make me a practicing optician in one year and it will not. The worst part about the course is that it penalizes people who take it by an extra three years and no associates or bachelor's degree come with the four year Penn Foster "school." And I use the term 'school" loosely. If I actually went to the local community college I would have a legitimate associate's degree and be a practicing optician within two years. The perfect analogy for the Penn Foster optician "school's" misrepresented 4 year opticiany program: An auto dealership is advertising a car that will get you to your destination in half the time it usually takes. After taking delivery of the vehicle it turns out it only runs in reverse and takes twice as long to get to the destination that way. The auto dealer would never be able to get away with selling a vehicle like this! Don't let Penn Foster get away with it either. It's a classic case of misrepresentation, bait and switch: internet fraud. Now I know the Federal Trade Commission does not have enough time to keep up with the massive fraud that occurs with internet advertising, but we can only do our part as good citizens in this great country of ours to stop each fraudelent Penn Foster advertising case one by one. My [redacted] credit card agreed with my dispute after investigating the legitimacy of the Penn Foster claims and would not pay Penn Foster. Now I have been sent to collections by Penn Foster for not paying for their "school." and I want my money back.
Review: Penn Foster is robo-calling my cell phone number several times a day. I assume by the message it is a collection issue. However, I have not nor have ever had a business relationship with Penn Foster. I have never purchased nor even inquired about their services. According to information received from the internet, others have had this same problem with Penn Foster. Those who have answered their calls and have explained that they do not have a business relationship with the company receive a rude response and continued harassment by robo-calls. I need for the calls to cease and desist immediately.Desired Settlement: No further contact so I will not have to file a TCPA lawsuit.

Review: I received a letter in the mail from [redacted], dated March 13, 2013 on behalf of Penn Foster. Reference Number: [redacted]
Debtor ID: [redacted]
The letter in no way represents a validity of alleged debt. It states a grossly inflated amount of $762.80. It further adds that "their client instructed this office to make a direct report to a credit reporting agency should this debt go unresolved".
However based upon information obtain from [redacted], said debt was reported on 2/2013. As you can clearly see, the alleged debt was placed on my credit report several weeks before [redacted] attempted to notify me. I was never given any time to review, dispute, or resolve the alleged debt prior to their reporting of it. And again, I point to their very own statement, "their client instructed this office to make a direct report to a credit reporting agency should this debt go unresolved". This is a clear violation of:
§ 807. False or misleading representations [15 USC 1692e]
A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:
(2) The false representation of --
(A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt; (by grossly inflating alleged balance, reporting to bureau before their written correspondence said they would)
15 USC §1692e(10) The use of any false representation or deceptive means to collect or attempt to collect any debt or to obtain information concerning a consumer. (prematurely reporting to a credit bureau)
§ 808. Unfair practices [15 USC 1692f]
A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. (prematurely reporting to credit bureau)
Acting on behalf of Penn Foster, [redacted] has severely harmed my credit score.Desired Settlement: As such, Penn Foster must remedy this matter immediately by the following:
- contact [redacted] to have them remove their derogatory listing from [redacted] and any other major credit reporting bureau they may have contacted
- request that [redacted] cease and desist all current and future collection attempts for the alleged debt as well as instructing them not to discuss/transfer/sell debt with the exception of bureau listing deletion
- Penn Foster must agree to forever end all collection attempts regarding this alleged debt and they must never transfer/sell/discuss alleged debt with any person, entity or business unless it is for the express purposes of account deletion from credit reporting bureaus
- Penn Foster must close this file permanently and make no further attempts to contact me nor anyone connected to me, nor make collection attempts of any kind including through third parties.

Review: I am enrolled with penn foster in the private investigator program. My first complaint is nobody said everything had to be paid before starting the internship or getting any certificates not a huge deal in itself but I would have made bigger payments in the begining to have it paid off when I finished. This was annoying but I took care of it I just wish they would have been up front about it. my second complaint is that the material is old, while most of it was relavant having lessons on computer hardware and software that is so rediculously out of date was a little unbeleivable. They were talking about how cell phones would become a key part to staying in contact with clients, everybody has a cell phone now so obviously some of this material is well behind the times. My biggest complaint is that one of the biggest reasons I chose penn foster was due to the fact they said they will set up an internship upon completion of the program, apparently and payment which they left out. I have had my tuition paid in full for over two months now and still no internship. on top of that penn foster does not set it up you get directed to a second company after three peices of mail correspondence to set up a mentor program whic is not the same as an internship.Desired Settlement: I think a partail refund would be far, also I would like them to have to disclose more information when talking to future students.

Review: I signed up for Penn Foster about two years ago. My father agreed he was going to make the payments. The first problem we encountered was on the application you can choose to pay the bill yourself or have the money automatically come out of your account. My father chose to pay himself but penn foster continually tries to take money out of his account every month. The second problem is that when they decide to eventually send you your materials for your classes they are out of date and sometimes you don't even recieve one of your books. This has happened about three times now. You also have to take webinars. I took all of my webinars and now I have to redo all of them because they didnt register. I tried telling them I have proof I have taken all of the ones I needed to but they dont listen. The professors are never there. Phone call, and emails are never returned. The only time they call is when they are wanting money.Desired Settlement: I just want out of this program without having to pay the tuition. I feel that it would be rediculous to pay for things I have not recieved or am not learning.

Review: I recently looked over my credit report to find that this school is charging me nearly 1500.00 when I never attended the school. I did request information and I did start the process of enrollment but I did not attend any classes or receive any class related materials. When I called to find out about the charges I was told that when I started the enrollment process that I was charged for taking an assessment.Desired Settlement: I would like that these charges be removed. This was not explained to me upon me starting the enrollment process and should not be on there!

Review: I entered into a settlement agreement on April 11, 2014, comfirmation # [redacted]. I checked my credit report on 8/25/2014 and filed a dispute as the information on my report had not been properly updated. [redacted] has checked info with Penn Foster and said the infomation is correctly reporting. Penn Foster is breaking the law from what I understand by not correctly reporting. The settlement payment was done using a credit card and I have proof of payment.Desired Settlement: Credit report to properly updated with correct information or a refund of settlement $351.50
