Complaint[redacted]In Jan. my husband took my computer in for upgrade. They never did their research in to what the computer could handle (ram and video card).They were told it can only be upgraded to 8gig of ram (2g per slot).I had called [redacted] myself and was given this information before the computer was taken for an upgrade. [redacted] They proceeded to put in 4g in to one of the slots and a new video card. my husband brought it home and when I started it up it froze after about 10 minutes. I shut it off and my husband took it back they removed the ram and video card, made a comment that the bridge between the slots could of gotten fried and now I would have to pay to get it fixed. We brought it home and turned it on and IT FROZE. I took it back myself and The tech I spoke with said [redacted] that them putting in the ram or video card had nothing to do with the computer freezing, and he said they would look at it and contact me. 3 weeks later I had called them to find out that the motherboard was wrecked. and it was going to cost me over $200 to fix it.I refused to pay as it was them who wrecked my computer, he told me he had to speak with his manager and they would get back to me. 2 weeks later I call the manager and find out he has no idea about this complaint.Now the manager tells me he has to speak with his manager. its been 2 weeks and I have not heard anything from them.I want them to pay to fix my computer as it was working perfectly fine before they tried to upgrade it.[redacted]Desired SettlementI want them to pay to send the computer away to [redacted] to have a new motherboard put in to it and to check and make sure the bridge that they spoke about is not wrecked [redacted]Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], Store ManagerContact Phone: 306[redacted]Contact Email: [redacted]@pcplace.caCustomer originally brought computer in for additional memory and graphics card. Parts and device drivers were installed by technical department. Customer brought computer back complaining about computer freezing up or not responding. System was tested and passed video, memory, and heat test. Computer continued to freeze, so this customer was refunded in full for the parts. Customer brought system back again with same freezing issue and technical department investigated customer complaints regarding problem. Our technical department was able to recreate customer issues and ruled out all major components such as: memory, hard drive, processor, operating system.Customer was quoted price for repair on replacement motherboard; as the memory installed was properly specced for customer's DIMM slot type, and the graphics card was properly specced for the customer PCI-Ex16 slot, power supply, and heat envelope. [redacted] called back later and discussed situation with myself. I provided authorization for our technical team to replace the motherboard at our expense as a matter of customer satisfaction. [redacted] Parts were not available from manufacturer ([redacted]) for this repair. Parts sourced from third party but delivery time 2-4 weeks because of international shipping.F[redacted] We will attempt to contact the customer again once the requested repair has been performed [redacted]Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)[redacted] I was told he ordered the part, will be 7-14 days and to contact if I had any questions.I will accept it once it is complete. [redacted] Final Business Response The southbridge previously mentioned is a motherboard integrated component and thus replaced with the motherboard. We have received the motherboard as of March 20th, 2014, installed said replacement board same day, and allowed the system to play 24 hours of HD YouTube videos [redacted] Customer issue appears to be resolved. We have contacted the customer this day, March 21st, 2014 to arrange for pickup at their earliest convenience.[redacted]
