Review: In addition to [redacted], Island Professional Billing ###-###-#### and [redacted] ###-###-#### are involved.
My daughter, [redacted] (22), has mental, psychological and neurological problems. She is disabled and receives monthly Medicare disability payments. The monies are deposited in my bank account since I am her representative payee.
Medicare is her primary insurance and Medicaid is her secondary insurance.
Her neurologist is [redacted] My daughter has never received a bill from [redacted] Then, at some point, [redacted] referred her to [redacted] (a [redacted]) for tests at a nearby hospital. After her Medicare and Medicaid insurance is applied, the hospital's bill will also be covered in full.
Then, on October **, 2013, I received a statement for $227.23 from Island Professional Billing for services rendered by [redacted] between January **, 2013 and May **, 2013. When I contacted them, they explained that the doctor who billed my daughter was [redacted].
When I contacted [redacted]'s office, they explained the $227.23 charge by saying [redacted] doesn't accept Medicaid. When I asked if [redacted] accepts Medicaid, they said, "no," but he waives the 20% that Medicare charges. They then said that my daughter signed paperwork agreeing to all charges. When I explained she was disabled, and wasn't capable of understanding what she was signing, they said something like, "Well, then you should have come with her."
When I contacted [redacted]'s office, and I asked them why the doctor referred my daughter to a surgeon who neither takes Medicaid nor waives the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay, they said something like, "We are a busy office, we don't have the time to call each doctor to see what their policies are." In other words, they're saying they would have made the call, but they were too busy.
I don't believe my daughter should have been referred to a doctor that does not accept her insurance. I also don't believe my daughter was capable of understanding whatever form my daughter was asked to sign at [redacted]'s office or at the hospital (assuming she signed such a form).Desired Settlement: I would like [redacted]'s bill adjusted so that my daughter owes nothing.
