We Paid My pros to roof our house and more specifically redisign a specific section of our roof. The salesman came out to our house limbed up on the roof with me for about a half hour and took several photos of the area we wanted rebuilt. He even wrote in our contract "rebuild gully, make chimney water tight". When they roofed the house however they just simply roofed right over the existing area without changing a thing as discussed and stated on the contract. The very first rainfall we had only a few days after they completed the job, the roof leaked (July of 2018). The salesman and roofer came back out and simply just calked around the area they were suppose to rebuild. When we questioned our salesman about this he stated they "put a membrane down" and that this was better way to do it and if it leaked "we had a 25 year warranty on material and craftsmanship". Now we are into spring and it leaked when the new buyers of the house went to do their final walk through, causing us to lose the sale of the house and sustain thousands of dollars in drywall damage. Now the owner, Joe ***, is refusing to stand behind his work stating that an ice dam caused the damage and he claims he does not warrant ice damns. I do agree an ice dam may have caused the issue, however we paid joe to redisign this section so we did not have this problem. We even sent text messages to the salesman back and forth noting this. My pros also billed us for permits when no permits were ever pulled. We were told inspections of the roof would be performed along with the permits being pulled and neither of these steps were performed.

My pros has cost us thousands of dollars in damage and the sale of our house.

I understand Mr. frustration with the ice dam that happened last winter and that he blames My-Pros for his ice dam. My-Pros’ sales representative, Craig, created an estimate on 04/22/2018 for a new roof to be installed on Mr. home for a value of $14,105.84, (attached file: K. *** Estimate). On My-Pros’ roof estimate, it does state that we would pull a permit. However, in the county of Mr. home they do not offer any roof permits or inspections. Most towns, cities, and counties in Illinois do require a roof permit. Mr. had made a complaint on his *** Review that Craig, the sales representative, was a sub-contractor and not an employee, which is true. However, on Mr. estimate (attached file) it states in all caps: NO SUBCONTRACTORS, 100% EMPLOYEE LABOR. My-Pros would like to aplogize that Craig is a Sales Representative, not a labor employee.

On 06/06/2018 Craig, a sales rep from My-Pros, did go to Mr.’s to pick out new shingle color, discuss the job, and sign a contract (Attached File =Contract ***) for the Exact Same Dollar amount down to the penny on the estimate that was created on 04/22/2018 for $14,105.84. I understand that Mr. thought we were going to install new roof trusses and re-layout the roof slopes without increases to the contract amount. While My-Pros’ employees are capable of such scope of work, an architect would be necessary to determine the building material needed and the additional labor estimate.

The roof has never leaked after the roof was completed on July 6th, 2018. Mr. has stated on his reviews that this was not the case. Mr. previously acknowledged that is not an accurate statement; On July 5th Mr. had text My-Pros sales representative, Craig, that the roof was leaking and Craig replied, (attached file = Kyle text roof leaking) "So my understanding is, there was a defect in their dry-in on the side of the chimney, that was where the intrusion was". You will also see a picture (attached file: Completing Roof 07/06) that owner, Joe ***, took photos of the roof at 9:30 AM showing that the work was not yet completed. Since the roof was installed, our area received over 15" of rain in the fall and the new roof installed by My-Pros had not leaked. Even after Mr. removed the ice dam that built-up in the winter, two different water tests were performed and the roof never leaked. Mr. father was apart of the water test and sent a photo of how much rain fell at the home without the roof leaking after the ice dam.
Mr. did vacate the home over the winter, lowering the heat in the home while he relocated to a different state. My-Pros does feel bad that Mr. had an ice dam on his home and wishes that Mr. would of provided an architect's drawing of what he was purposing to be completed.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

1.) An ice dam did not cause the leak on my house. The contractor that came to "rebuild the valley" (which is what we paid my pros to do, redesign and rebuild the valley causing the leak) noted in several photos that the water intrusion was coming in nearly 6 ft higher than where my pros is claiming the ice damn took place. If the intrusion area was 6 ft higher on the roof than the supposed ice damn, and on an entirely different slope not to mention. It is clear an "ice damn" was not the issue.

2.) we paid my pros to redesign this section of the roof. They did not redesign this section of the roof as they promised. We were promised by Craig their salesman that they had done this a "better way" despite us telling Craig this section needed to be redesigned to avoid future issues as well as the fact that this was wrote into our contract.

3.) Joe and My pros use the permit excuse when it is convieniant for them. Joe argues that permits are not necessary for jobs in ogle county yet then he states that I should have known he would need an architect and even states that I should have provided this? Joe claims his company is responsible and capable of rebuilding roofs and doing a structure as such, and his salesman Craig certainly sold us that they could perform such a job however when it came down to it they do not have any ability to do such a job. My pros realized this when they started my house and simply shingled over the existing structure going against all they promised. My pros was in over their head and it ended up costing me the sale of my house and almost 10,000 in repairs.

Sincerely,

Kyle

Had a roof put on by My Pros back in July. Have found several issues including a hole that was roofed over. Was promised someone would come out to take a look and make the repairs but one week later nothing yet. They bent my front seamless gutter and their fix for that was just to come out and try to muscle it back into shape. Had another roofing company come out just to take a look and he said major shortcuts were taken. Luckily I have not paid this company anymore than $800 so far. Was instructed by my insurance agent and an attorney not to pay until the work was up to what I thought it should be. Beware of this company. They talk a strong game but I’m not impressed.
