Meineke Car Care Center Reviews (%countItem)

I was quoted a price for a repair of $1200. When they got into the repair they found it was more involved than they thought. It now cost $2800 .I told them no just put it the car back together. When I got my bill they charged me $1246 for a oil change and to plug a slow leaking tire and labor to fix something they did NOT fix. Jeremy said they still had to charge me the labor even though it was not fixed.

Meineke Car Care Center Response • Dec 13, 2019

Dear Revdex.com:

To answer the two comments about price:

First, this vehicle calls for full synthetic oil. The price full a full synthetic oil change is $69.95 in which is very competitive in the market.

And second, a screw in the tire had to be removed from the center of the tread. We do not plug tires from the outside. To patch a tire properly the tire has to be removed from the rim, inspected and then either patched or patch/plugged from the inside and then reinstalled on the rim. The cost of that is $20.

And finally, I have reviewed and discussed *** issues with the manager (Jeremy) and the mechanic ***. This vehicle came in to inspect an oil leak. The leak was coming from the timing cover area in which is buried in the side of the engine. Jeremy estimated installing a new timing cover gasket along with other items. The timing gasket job alone calls for more than 9 hours in labor. *** approved some of these tasks *** offered.

Once the engine was disassembled *** found that the leak was coming from a crack in the timing cover that had been JB welded at one time or another. Jeremy shared these findings with *** and explained that only gasket set would not solve the oil leaks. Jeremy estimated the additional part needed to seal the engine. *** declined the additional part. Jeremy explained to *** that there would still be oil leaking all of which is document on his invoice. *** instructed *** to have *** put the engine back together without a new timing cover. Jeremy explained that he still has to charge the amount discussed less the timing chain gasket set and *** still declined installing the new cover.

When *** came to pick up the vehicle there was no debate. *** stated that he just put a $3000 engine in the vehicle and did not put another $3000 in repairing it. While investigating this issue *** and I wondered why *** approved any repairs to the engine that had just been installed somewhere else instead of immediately taking the vehicle back to them. Surely it has some warranty if it was done in the last 12 months or so.

Needless to say we have no crystal ball or x-ray vision nor the ability to predict that someone would take the time to JB weld a timing cover. Our staff also cannot work for free because of someone’s lack of desire to repair their vehicle correctly. If *** decides to replace this timing cover I will instruct *** to discount the labor to help *** out since we already know what the issue is.

8/3/19: I took my vehicle to this place to check out my air conditioner. They called my husband and told him that it was going to be about $1300 for a new a/c compressor on my car. My husband told them to fix it. We picked it up the next day. 2 hours later I took the vehicle back because it was not blowing cold air after 30 minutes of running. They said they would "check it out" and they said it was blowing cold air according to their thermometer. I asked to talk to the manager that was above who I was speaking to. They put me in contact with *** who agreed to meet me at the Mascoutah location the Monday following (8/5/19). I took my car up there and was basically told the exact same thing that "they weren't finding anything wrong with it". I then approached them about the price I was charged and they refused to even look at the receipt. On 8//19 *** came to my place of employment, picked up my vehicle to "look at it again". He picked up the car around 8:30am and when I had a break I called where I thought my car had gone (to the Mascoutah location). Turns out he took it to the Belleville location. When I called the Belleville store, *** was not there to answer any of my questions. After 30-45 minutes he finally called back to tell me that "the a/c was blowing cold air at around 46 degrees. I, again, asked him why it wouldn't cool the car down and he said he didn't know. Again, I approached the topic of a partial refund and he said he would have to "talk to the owner". He then accused me of extortion, when I have proof from other places that the service could have been done for cheaper. The quotes I got from other companies were $500-600 cheaper.

Meineke Car Care Center Response • Aug 20, 2019

This issue has been resolved between Meineke and ***.

Recently went to visit Meineke regarding an issue with my braking system on the car whereby they had begun bottoming out when depressed. Upon arrival I explained to the store manager/technician the issue that I were experiencing. He prompted me that he would have look and see what was happening. A hour and a half later he returned to the front counter and informed me that his guy took a look and did not find any visual fault of the brakes. He then continued a stated he may have to take the car for a test drive to double check.
When he returned handed the keys back to me and insisted that the brakes had no fault and did not exhibit any behavior of which I had described. (There was no charge for the service/diagnostics) When I regained possession of the vehicle and drove from the parking area, I stepped on the brakes only to notice that the problem had been resolved, Curious of the guys motive I took a look around the car and notice that my entire rim set had become damaged with deep cuts around the perimeter.
Upon noticing this I sent the store manager an email message attached with pictures identifying the damages occurred. He contacted me the next day denying any fault. I then sent a customer complaint to corporate Meineke, which notified the store manager of the accusations. He then continued to deny the claim and any such knowledge of the damages.

Meineke Car Care Center Response • Feb 23, 2019

Dear Revdex.com: I will tell you exactly what I told our home office: Please read below:
(I am beginning to think *** is delusional or that this is some kind of joke. Our office staff backed up a copy of the entire footage of this encounter; from *** arrival to his departure. You can see our guy walk to *** car and get in it. Then he drive his car into the shop, gets out and take pictures of the four corners of the car, then racks it up on the twin post lift and raises it into the air. Then he looks through the wheels only to see nothing wrong and then lowers the car back down to the ground. *** then talks to ***. He tells him he will take the car for a quick drive to see if he hears whatever *** is hearing. *** comes back into the lot and parks his car in the front of the building (all of which is on camera). Then he gives *** his keys and *** drives off.
I would like an answer as to what in the hell would we have to gain by repairing something for no cost? This is “suspicious” he says. No it is not, if we did not do anything or install any parts we do not have anything to charge for! It’s not suspicious, it's common sense. We have never worked on this car before! It is not like it was a warranty job that we would repair at no charge. And number two, why in the world would anyone purposely damage someone’s wheels?
Another mystery is that *** already called *** and invited him to review the video footage to put his mind to ease and maybe apologize to our staff for such an accusation. Guess what, he declined! He is a busy person he said. Now he is still accusing our guys of damaging his wheels and is threatening to go to court! Well, I have the footage and our attorney will be happy to present it to the judge for him/her to decide. But it doesn’t stop there. We will counter sue *** for all of our court cost, all of our attorney’s fees and for our wasted time.
Our cameras are for everybody involved safety, security and protection. They don’t lie. We did this man a favor. We looked at his car, found nothing and charged nothing. When we were falsely accused of damaging his wheels on purpose we politely and professionally defended ourselves with video footage and pictures. *** had his opportunity to review it and declined. Now he is not welcome back on the premises.)

I don't know what kind of scam *** is trying to pull here. Anyone with any sense at all would simply look at the video footage, see that Meineke did not even remove the wheels from the car and move on. Instead *** wants to send these libel accusations to anyone who may listen. I have all the proof I need to support the fact that ***'s wheels did not get damaged at Meineke. Therefore, *** will not be getting anything from Meineke.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
As stated in the original complaint the manager who represents the staff of the location is a defined complete liar, crook as well as con. As he has established in his original statement he made to me that "the brakes were fine" and their was no issue with them. If that was true like any other statement/response he has submitted regarding the incident the car would have never been bought to the location for repair. Who takes a nearly new vehicle with has mass payments and massive insurance premiums attached to a mechanic shop for repair to receive a lump sum repair bill. If that was the case I would agree with Jay. How old is he? Damaging peoples property is an attribute of a child. If Meineke places children in management position and also issues them franchise licenses due to them having the ability to present a "white card" that's their issue. As for the damages assessed to my vehicle on the date it was bought their for service that is a my issue and my issues will be resolved, addressed and handled accordingly.

Sincerely

We brought our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox into their *** location at 3pm on 12/8/16 for an oil change. Roughly 48 hours later and away from home puddles of oil where discovered underneath the vehicle . The engine compartment and underside of the vehicle was covered in oil. Upon further inspection of the dipstick, there was no oil in the vehicle. Aside for being stranded, there was a potential for catastrophic engine failure from this. Further, it was an immediate fire hazard. We immediately had the vehicle transported to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle and discovered that the O-Ring (a critical part to the oil change) was not replaced during servicing and allowed the leak.

The entire process was documented with both pictures and written detail by the correcting mechanic.

Meineke Car Care Center Response • Dec 19, 2018

Dear Revdex.com:
*** have made aware of this issue. *** has already offered *** his money back on the service we provided to him or a free oil change. This was all out of good faith on our part. Yes, mistakes happen, defective parts happen, etc. We are not denying that oil could have leaked past an O-ring if it was not installed correctly. And if indeed this did happen as stated, I apologize for the inconvenience. We are also not confirming anything due to the fact that we never got a chance to look at this vehicle ourselves. I would find it very hard to believe that the O-ring was not missing. The vehicle would not have made it out of the shop without all of the oil on the ground.
This is why Meineke has a Nationwide Warranty for Parts, Labor and Service, good at any Meineke across the country. Why *** took his vehicle to a shop less than 2 blocks away to have an oil leak studied knowing he just had the oil changed with us (48 hours ago) is simply beyond our comprehension. Furthermore, once the problem was found, no one thought it may be a good idea to call Meineke to inform them of the situation and discuss proper protocol for Meineke to resolve this issue before it got to this point? After all, *** has been into that location 10 or 11 times in the past and never had any issues before. We were open.
Just as any other company, Meineke has company policies for Warranty Repairs. They are printed on the reverse side of *** invoice.
Had *** followed the process, at minimum call us and give us the opportunity, we would have been happy to take care of any issue that was caused by our service in house.
Our offer stands as presented.
Sincerely

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Some clarification, at the time all of this was detected Meineke was NOT open nor answering their phones. Was Meineke offering to pick up my family and tow us back to their shop at 9pm? Although it was after hours, the other mechanic in town was able to be contacted and a plan to take action as this could have been a catastrophic issue for the engine. Further, the fact that the owner of Meineke can't understand why someone would take their car to ANOTHER shop for a second opinion on the matter is ridiculous. It's only my family's safety on the line. If there was nothing to hide and they were truly open to quality work, Meineke would have no issue with another mechanic (one that they do business with already) reviewing their work and ensuring that their customer was taken care of in the end. But no, that is not Meineke's position or care.

As stated by the owner, I have visited their business for numerous oil changes and much other work. Easily thousands of dollars of business in the last year or so. However, Meineke of course stands firm on losing a customer over $70.

Sincerely

I went to Meineke to have my breaks looked at because they were grinding. While having them checked out I was informed I needed new pads and rotors which I understood so I had them replaced with Meineke. I was at this store for 5 hours and the mechanic then finished my car right at closing time which was 4pm on a Saturday. The certified mechanic who worked on my car was also the certified mechanic who test drove my car to make sure everything was safe. I left there and I am no car person so I honestly dont know what to expect new breaks to feel like because they could be different but I thought in my head, a certified mechanic test drove it so it has to be fine. I go home down the street to get ready for prior engagements. When I left my home I thought more and more that something was wrong with my breaks because my foot was literally all the way to the ground and my car was still rolling to the point that I tapped a lady and threw my car in park because I was freaking out. My car did barely tap hers and she could tell I was stressed and what not so she said not to worry about it because it didnt leave a mark. I continued for 5 hours that night to try and find someone who knows more about cars to tell me what was going on. I finally ended up having a friends cousin take a look at it who is also a mechanic and after I explained and he examined just by looking checking things I would of NEVER thought to check. After I let him test drive it he noticed the car was rolling when we were at a complete stop and pedal all the way to floor. Once we got back to where we were parked he then noted my break was pouring out break fluid on the back passenger side but would not do any work to the car because he informed me it cancels out your warranty. I went and purchased break fluid and filled it up because it was at the minimum line by the time I got to auto zone. Took the car back and it continued the leak so often I would have to go out and keep filling it so it doesnt completely run out until that MONDAY when they were open again. I had no choice but to drive and keep putting fluid in my car because I am a single mother who HAS to work. I had to run a yellow light with my son in the car because if I would of tried to stop I would of eventually started rolling. I didnt drive the car alot but to work was a must. Had I not spent my time after spending $400 and 5 hours labor on my breaks to continue to figure out the issue because I never would of thought to look at any of that stuff my fluid would of ran out that night and I would of had absolutely NO breaks at all and could of seriously hurt myself or someone else because again I dont know anything about cars. I truly believe the worker knew there was something not right because the manager that Monday tried to tell me they legally have to check pressures and everything so it was impossible for me to be leaking or my breaks not working. As soon as I brought the car to them the manager got in the car and hit the breaks and said yeah shes definitely hitting the ground and his good mechanic as he stated looked under my car and word for word stating shes pouring out fluid from the back. He asked who it was again that worked on my car and when I reminded him, he and the other worker both started we have alot of issues with him but yet the area manager only moved this employee to a different location and told me it was none of my concern. Meineke did fix my car 2 days later as I had to wait almost 5 more hours to get it back because they had to order another part. I am still going back and forth with Meineke because I distributed my credit card charge and the area manager took weeks to contact me back after reaching out 3 times. The manager then proceeded to tell me basically his boss is not going to dispute the charge because it only would of been "a law suit if I crashed" the area manager told me. I did let one profanity word slip out in which I did apologize to him for and I asked who the owner was because I would like to speak with him. He said I will relay a message. I asked for the owners name again because he avoided the question and he said il get them the message and then just hung up on me. I feel that was definitely pour customer service and I work in customer service and I know profanity is not aloud in which I apologized for the one word I said. After he hung up I called back and stated it was rude to hang up and he then told me I was yelling at him and cussing at him which I have witnesses that I was not and just said I'll relay the message and hung up again.

Dear Revdex.com:
First, let me apologize for not seeing this emailed complaint until now.
Both *** (GM) and *** (store manager) spoke with *** about the issue with the service and apologized for what happened. I investigated as well and discussed this with ***. Apparently an old bleeder screw failed or was not fully tightened and in turn aloud air into the brake system creating a soft and low brake pedal after we performed a brake service on ***'s vehicle. This is why Meineke has a Nationwide Warranty on parts and labor. The next business day the problem was easily solved. Not to make light of the issue, but per D.O.T. regulations vehicles have safety controls that will isolate different parts of a brake system in the event of a hydraulic failure such as a broken hose or rusted out steel brake line (or in this case a leaking brake bleeder screw).
We followed the Meineke Warranty Guidelines that are printed on the backside of our invoice. We made the repair at no charge and in a timely fashion as we should have. We offered a free oil change for the inconvenience.
Again, I / we apologize for the issue, but it does not in any way warrant a refund of any kind.

Sincerely,

***
president

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I am not a certified mechanic but it sounds weird you say a little screw allowed SOME air in the breaks when my foot was ALL THE WAY to ground and still rolling. As I Informed the manager of the store and area manager I was not satisfied. The store manager was completely nice and understood me not being satisfied even after I left, where as the area manager was rude in general to where he even hung up on me. I should have had the lady that I ended up tapping with my car at a red light make a police report so then as the area manager said, then something would be done. They didnt offer me the oil change willingly at all I had to ask how I was going to be reimbursed for the bottles of break fluid. The certified mechanic should have definitely noticed something not right per the 2 mechanics I had trying to figure out what's wrong while not being able to put in air or work on because they informed me it would void it being fixed. I wouldn't Recommend meineke to anyone especially because they only relocated the mechanic and told me it was none of my concern.

Sincerely

I do not think I have ever had as many issues with a business as I have experienced with both my daughter's. First about 3 years ago my youngest daughter took her car to this location to get all new brakes lines and brakes out on her car. She got the car back and after driving it that day she got it back the tire flew off on the Highway. I was livid. They wanted to charge her again after she had just gave them 800 dollars. Now my oldest daughter had her lower control arm a.k.a ball joint separate in her drive way she she turned in home. So she called the wrecker and they took it to this place. Supposedly they changed both lower ball joints, an axle, did and allignment and out a new tire on it. This all done in 1.6 hours so just over an hour and a half. She was charged for just the Labor 460 dollars then the parts. 891 out the door. So why does her car sound worse then when she took it in. I feel like they ripped her off and didn't do the work that they claim they did. This is a terrible business and I would never recommend them to do work on anything!!

First, I apologize for the customer experience at Meineke. I would like to look into this some more. I do not have this name in the computer system. Can you either fwd me the invoice number or the customer name on the top of the invoice to help investigate? Was the vehicle taken back to have them investigate the, "So why does her car sound worse then when she took it in?" If I could get some more details I would like to follow up on this issue.

ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21, 2017 I TOOK MY 2012 CHEVY MALIBU FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. IT WAS DROPPED OFF BETWEEN 1:30 PM AND 2:00 PM. MY MOTHER WENT TO PICK UP THE KEYS THE AND PAY FOR THE SERVICE BEFORE THEY CLOSED AT 6:00 PM. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR AND MADE IT HOME I NOTICED MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS THAT WERE ON MY CAR. WHEN I CALLED THE STORE THE NEXT MORNING TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT I DISCOVERED, THEY TOLD ME IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT THEIR STORE AND IT WAS DONE BEFORE IT BROUGHT IT IN. I EXPLAINED TO MANAGER THAT WHEN I DROPPED MY CAR IT HAD 4 TIRES THAT WERE ALL THE SAME AND WERE PURCHASED AND PUT ON MY VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2017 (GOOD YEAR EAGLE LS2s) WHICH I HAVE THE RECEIPTS THAT SHOW WHEN AND WHERE THEY WERE PURCHASED. JANUARY WAS THE LAST TIME I HAD ANY WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE AND IT WAS DONE AT GEORGE WEBER CHEVROLET IN COLUMBIA. THE TIRE THAT WAS ON MY FRONT PASSENGER RIM WAS BRIDGESTONE TIRE. IT WAS THE SAME SIZE BUT WAS CLEARLY SHOWED IT WAS A USED TIRE. MY CAR DRIVES BAD DUE TO BAD TIRE THAT WAS PUT ON MY CAR. I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE.
