M & E Painting Reviews (3)

M&E Painting just finished our house and it looks incredible. Their crew was very professional, helpful, and did just phenomenal job. They stuck true to their estimate, even though there was a task that was a bit harder than expected. Their prep work is far superior than any other professional painting company out there.

Review: Complainant: 85 yr old caregiver for 92 yr old terminally ill husband. Estimate given for painting trim, windows and doors of ranch home, brick, Contract signed 14 May, with stipulation that it be completed by 30 May 2013 and that all windows and trim be properly prepared, sanded and BRUSH painted. Agreed by M & E. Very careless about when and what they would be doing, and never called ahead or advised or return to complete work. Painting was sloppy! Others who are in same type business have advised us to contact Revdex.com, ENTIRE TRIM was SPRAYED, too heavy, sags and brush marks, but most ctirical are windows, All worked well before painting, They were all painted shut, and while they can be forced open they restick on closing. Present safety hazard. House filled with smoke from oven and we could not open windows! Windows are not sagging as M & E claims. They called me on phone and screamed and called me names and a liar on the speaker phone. My entry doors are partly paint and partly varnish because they did not know where to stop - it shows as an incomplete job! Contract requiring Brush work on all Windows NOT FULFILLED. Very careless, Did not keep word in their advertisements or brochure. I now need to resolve the windows, so that they open as they did prior, and we could get emergency exit or ventilation and to have the door trim all one color. This is not a good job at all and I feel their language is not appropriate for age, situation and good customer relationship. I feel their quality of work far below standard. I need some help resolving this issue, and have tried through polite letters and requests to the company, but they reject my every effort. I invite professional advice and inspection. Thank you for listening.Desired Settlement: I would like to be able to have a different person or company of my choosing come in and correct the window trim so that the windows will open reliably again and the door trim re-done so it is all one color, at M & E expense. I do not feel I can work with M & E after the way they have treated me.

Response:

Dear [redacted] and the Revdex.com,

This is the customer I had callled you about a number of weeks back. The issues she mentions in her letter were valid concerns that were addressed personally at her home by me and my production manager [redacted]. She was concerned about the time comittment we made to paint which was weather permitting. It rained for a number of the days we were planning to paint and we were not able to complete the deck becasue it was wet. She was angry when we were not there becasue it rained. When we came back to stain the deck she was angry that we were there to stain it and complained again about us not having it done when it was impossible to do so becasue of rain. On the final day of inspetion I called Mrs. [redacted] and made a personal visit to the home to inspect the work and make sure it was to my quality. The items she was concerned about were addressed and I watched [redacted] fix these things with a paint brush and bucket in hand. There were even issues that were pre existing issues such as existing paint on rocks and old paint on windows we were asked to clean up and we informed her that this was not from us, and she agreed. HEr windows are 50-60 years old and open very typically of windows of this age. Many of her windows she claimed we "painted shut" she simply didn;t unlock before she opened. I showed her this and opened and clsoed every single window, as well as oiled them with her.

When I was there on the final inspection and close out of the job, Mrs. [redacted] informed us she would not pay until we took care of all the items. We took care of all the items and she then paid and we closed out the job. We deducted $10 for a broken thermometer and even took a sliding door off site to be recreened. When this door was brought back, a wheel that was already broken, we were blamed for so we paid her for that.

After we personally addressed her concerns and took care of every item on her list, she mailed me the same list a few days after saying she was still not happy. I called her and she went on and on about how the whole job was bad, and our company was bad. I told her that we were finished, the work was to our quality, and how could we make a person happy who had said to us "I am just fussy and never happy".

In my 13 years of being in this businsss and working and meeting close to 10,000 customers and potential customers, I have never seen the level of disrespect, racism and bigotry directed towards me and the people of my comapny as I have from Ms. [redacted]. In her letters and communications she has attempted to come off as the sweet elderly caregiver, and that is far from the truth. Her communciations and verbage towards us has warranted a call to the local poilce department, and they mentioned they are only one more call away from filing a report and contacting her. Here are some of the remarks that were directed towards myself and the painters while we were there:

Don't bring those [redacted] back here, I can't stand them

Yea, I say "[redacted]" (please note, this is a direct word from her mouth and the only reason I would ever type this word), [redacted]

Anybody younger than 50 doesn't know what they are talking about

I have a zero tolerance policy for being talked to this way. I do not put up with racism, bigotry and discrimination and so not expect that anybody does. This contract has been fulfilled and Mrs. [redacted] paid for the work once we took care of everything. She will never be happy.

Her reesolution suggests we paint unpainted (stained ) portions of doors and winows. These are interior portions of the home which werenever included int he contract. We addressed a sliding door where the paint transistion was made smoother coming into the house, and this is the first time I have heard about any other areas. I decline to do this as it was never part of any contract. I also decline to have an open tab with another painter to come out.

I am happy to send out the [redacted] paint rep to inspect the job, or a pianitng company I am comfprtable with. I am also happy to send a home inspector I am comfortabel with to come inspoect the windows.

Other than that, I can agree that we will have nothing to do with Mrs. [redacted].

Here is a copy of the final letter we sent her:

[redacted],

Thank you for your

letter. I am sorry to hear about your disappointment. To this date,

[redacted] and I have addressed your concerns and responded to every phone call and

letter you have sent in regard to the paint job. I personally visited your

home with [redacted] to address every issue you were concerned about and did correct

these issues. There were also concerns you had that you told us to just

leave alone which we did. We did make

sure to go line through line through your list and cover each issue.

After I left your

home, [redacted] stayed to finish painting and then took the door for a few days

to fix the wheels on the bottom. Although [redacted] is sure he did not

break the wheels, we are enclosing payment for the invoice you sent. I

have also enclosed a copy of your warranty.

While we were both at

your home, [redacted] and I explained why we painted the windows the way we did to

give them a better more even coverage without brush strokes (this is again why

we sprayed them). Due to the unhappiness

you expressed with minor brushstrokes on other areas, that was the correct way

to paint those windows. We also

explained that the windows were having trouble opening because they were

sagging in the housing they sat in and dropped down as they were opened. This is an adjustment and issue that has

nothing to do with painting. Any way

these windows were painted, this would have occurred. We were also asked to open and unstick

windows that were locked and just needed to be unlocked and then they opened

fine.

We are also not

responsible for paint or stain that was previously on any brick, gutters below

the deck or windows. Any paint over

completed by us was taken care of and removed, and anything left was already

there.

To this date, we have

satisfied everything that was on our contract.

The day I left your home, you also acknowledged this as you paid us in

full for the painting as per the contract immediately after we addressed your

concerns.

As far as our last phone

conversation, when I called to address your concerns, you mentioned to me how

unhappy you were with the entire job. Given our concerted attempts to

serve you every step of the way, my observation is that you will not be

pleased no matter what lengths we go to. Our goal is to keep 100% of our

customers happy 100% of the time. Sadly, the reality is that this does

not happen and there are people who will never be happy regardless of

circumstance.

My response to your

comments on the phone are commensurate with my zero tolerance policy for

anyone treating my crews, team, family or myself with racism, bigotry or

discrimination. We also have a zero

tolerance policy for being bullied. Because

of the zero tolerance policy we have as a company to be on the receiving end of

maltreatment of this nature, we will no longer be at your service for any

future painting.

Please cease to contact

our company in any way as it will not be responded to and will be reported as

necessary to the proper authorities.

Sincerely,

I can't recommend M&E highly enough. From the first contact to the last communication, the entire team was friendly. On top of that, they showed a dedication to doing a superior job. We had some issues with paint bubbling on our siding and they ended up purchasing new siding for the affected areas, painting them in-house and re-siding those areas. We are so thrilled with the job they did and are recommending them to everyone we know. Thanks, M&E!
