shape, moderate lifting of rear concrete deck at coping intersection, prior existing french drain, access grading.it is my understanding that the only item left to be addressed for final inspection of your pool isa required hand rail at deck steps at each end of poolThe right side seemed most challengingto you because the configuration of the wall below an installed rail would leave a triangularshaped opening if wall remained in existing configurationI suggested that once the rail isinstalled we (San Diego Pools) alter the configuration of the wall to run parallel to the rail, thereby giving the consistent look you are afterYou seemed to agree with that idea and we moved on to other subjects.The pool shape is as per your pool construction plan with minor modifications you instructed one of our masons to employAfter speaking with all involved and studying the pool construction plan did not find evidence that the pool was constructed incorrectly or that you were not happy with the plan or the configuration of the pool as initially laid out and then slightly modified at your directionOur foremen on the job are happy to meet and rehash the conversations and actions that led to you directing the filling in of a small area of the shot-crete structure that slightly modified the shape of the poolYou made your changes and we moved on with constructionI do understand that now you wish the pool was a different configurationWe can and are willing to make any changes you desire but only if paid for by you.On inspection of concrete decking at rear of pool noticed a rise in the deck of about 4' at the junction with the copingI also observed surface drains behind the freestanding seat wall constructed on the rear edge of the deckIn addition, there is a slight mostly unplanted slopeupward from those drains to the rear of the yardThese conditions when added to heavy rains last winter cause me to believe that rain water traveled toward pool deck, likely clogged the drains so then saturated the surface soil under the deck causing the liftingThere are other possible causes but this is the most likelyThe decking will probably not settle down into original positionThe caulking between the deck and coping is stretched and tornIt is my recommendation that you replace this moisture barrier as soon as possible.The French drain system installed prior to pool construction ran through the area where the pool now sitsIt is not and was not our responsibility to re-route this drain system and there was plenty of time for you to have this done by othersIn addition, because of the position of the pool along the house I question the viability of a French drain in that areaPlus, even after all the winter rains saw no evidence of moisture or moisture damage at any area between the pool and the house.The access area along the side of the house is roughly gradedestimate that man for hours of hand grading will smooth this area out and promote any drainage to streetThis is generally handled by owner or landscaper as "access repair" is noted on your construction agreement as not includedAs a courtesy we (San Diego Pools) will invest the hours while in process of installing City of La Mesa required step hand rails.Your pool is as beautiful as it was when completed almost years ago(See included photos) hope you will now allow us to install standard rails required by the City of La MesaIf you decide on some kind of custom rails system, then allow us to reimburse you up to $towards the costThis is the same offer we made after failing original final inspectionI hope that our conversation and solution discussed last week will finally lay the issue to rest.Sincerely,*** *** San Diego Pools
