L & S Heating & Cooling Reviews (1)

Installed a draft inducer motor in heating unit even though I was told they were going to replace something else. The heat wasn't working in my home when I was out of town so I contacted my contractor and he highly recommended L&S heating & cooling. I wanted to know if they were reputable HVAC company and my contractor told me they were. My contractor got in contact with the L&S heating &cooling on my behalf to check the Heating unit at my home. L&S went out and checked the unit and stated that the "entire motor and fan for the system needed replacing". Being handy myself, I said the entire fan and motor? The huge fan on top of the unit and the entire motor? I was told yes that needed replacing. L&S stated the project would cost $1000 for changing the entire motor and large fan. I stated that the unit is only 8yrs old and this should be covered under my manufacturer warranty. I asked for the part to be left at my home on my porch but was told they had to take it back to the office. Something didn't seem right so I called my neighbor and explained the situation to him and he went over and asked the tech from L&S for his phone number. I immediately called the tech named [redacted] and started asking him questions about what was going to be fixed. [redacted] told me that someone from his company would call me right back. I waited 1/2 hour and no one called back. I called [redacted] (service guy) again and it went directly to voice mail. Within the next hour my contractor called and he told me the system was now fixed and everyone was gone. The part that was changed was a very small draft inducer motor which was completely different than what was first stated. I waited for a bill so I could see exactly what was replaced. First L&S didn't want to give me a bill they just wanted me to pay them $1000.00. Of course I would not agree to that- finally they sent a bill on the work sheet made out by the tech he stated that he spent 2hrs (at time and a half) for a Early Saturday afternoon. The bill stated 2 ½ hours at time and a half even though the work sheet said 2 hours. The bill they sent me had a break down of $510 for draft inducer motor,( $150.00 part at a normal marked up price) $60 to open supply house on a Saturday, $100 to the contractor **, 2.5 hours for $400 ($200 per hour for the 2 hours the tech said he was there) with time and a half which came to a total of $1070. They gave me a $170 discount for being a first time customer. ( that was a joke)-I questioned them again about where the part was they they removed-L&S said they couldn't find the part that they took out of my unit so it must have been thrown out- How convenient! L&S emailed me stating that "[redacted] is expecting payment within 24 hours or they will come on to my property and remove the part." If they are doing this type of business with me then they will do it to anyone else. I feel as if I have been cheated out of money. I feel L&S saw an opportunity to make money since I wasn't there and ran with it. To give you an idea of what this should have cost-I spoke with 3 other HVAC companies after getting the bill and they said this is the type of company that give HVAC companies a bad name. The highest any of the other 3 would have charged even on a Saturday was $385.00. Desired SettlementI am willing to pay them $400.00 even though that's a high price-Business Response L & S Heating & Cooling was called to a service call on Saturday 4/1/2014 at [redacted]. A builder friend of [redacted] called [redacted] (owner) and said she had heat issues. We sent a technician out and He found bad draft inducer motor. We called the builder back and informed him of the problem and price. The builder told us it was approved.Went to supply house on Saturday (fee) for them to open) picked up part and returned and did therepairs. We would never have done the repairs had it not been approved prior.Price quoted before repair was based on weekend rates with an additional charge for the supply house to open on Saturday. We feel that we gave her a fair rate. Because to diagnosis, go get the part and return and make the necessary repairs actually took longer than the two hours and a half she was billed for.Sincerely,[redacted]Consumer Response L&S says they were given permission to do the work which is an absolute untruth. I made calls to L&S and no one would call me back before work was done. I did get in touch with their tech [redacted] briefly and he said BEFORE he did work he would have his boss call me- that never happened. [redacted] told me the entire FAN and MOTOR had to be replaced- I asked [redacted] if he was talking about replacing the huge fan on top of the unit and the entire motor? He said YES! As a matter of fact, [redacted] told me it would "take hours and hours to do the work once he gets the parts". I waited for someone from L&S to call me back, but no one did, so I called back and got a voicemail- so, I left another message. [redacted] didn't change the entire motor and fan he changed a tiny inducer motor. My neighbor told me that [redacted] was not at the house more then 15 minutes- then left VERY QUICKLY with my old part. L&S says they did 2.5 hours of work but the worksheet from their tech says 2 hours. - The company didn't want to give me a receipt and threatened me by saying they would come on my property and take part off my HVAC unit if I didn't pay. (I have emails) L&S blames it on the "contractor"-I told the tech do not touch anything until I talk to his boss. The contractor and L&S were certainly in this scam together since I was not in the state at the time and no one was there overseeing anything. L&S also said they don't know how to do warranty work. What reputable company doesn't know how to do warranty work?I have proof I spoke with the companies tech and proof I called and left a message for someone to call me back ASAP. I would like to see proof of where I approved the repair to L&S. Where did I sign? I also have proof they didn't want to give me a receipt. Why? What legitimate company doesn't want to give receipts? Once I found out they made the repair and it was a totally different part then what the Tech [redacted] told me, I said I want the old part. I was told they "lost it". How can they lose a part they just removed? What does L&S have to prove what they are saying is correct? I have emails that show they changed the "breakdown of charges" 3 times- They didn't know what was the truth themselves because they were so confused with all their untruths. Bottom line is if I was home when this happened I would have seen what actually was going on. L&S saw an opportunity and ran with it. Other HVAC companies told me that it's companies like L&S that give their industry a bad reputation.
