I purchased a Kingsdown bed in January 2015 from ***(which has since gone out of business). The bed had a 10 year unlimited warranty on any defections. Both the mattress and boxspring have collapsed on this bed (*** actually replaced the boxspring once due to this issue). We have now purchased a new bed as it was not usable anymore. I've contacted Kingsdown and on their website it actually says to try to go through your credit card company. (which I have tried however since I did not register the product after purchasing it I can't claim it through the credit card).

I would just like Kingsdown to honour their warranty. On January 1st, 2018 I sent in a warranty claim to Kingsdown, after making two separate calls to kingsdown to ask what the status of my warranty claim was, I received a response on February 14, 2018 stating that the mattress was abused and therefore not a warranty issue.

This bed was purchased for my son when he was 15, he is now 17 and 6' 6", there was no abuse of this bed, it obviously was not made for someone of his size. Nowhere in the warranty does it state you have to be of a certain size for them to cover the warranty.

I purchased this bed on January 23, 2015
*** exchanged the boxspring (under Kingsdown warranty) in 2016
it was a Kingsdown Napa Grove Mattress $649.99 & Napa Grove Foundation $200.00.

In fact we liked the bed so much we purchased a second one in 2016 for my daughter, which I'm obviously regretting as I'm sure they won't honour that warranty as well.

Desired Outcome

Either a full refund or store credit at *** for the purchase price.

Kingsdown Response • May 03, 2018

We at Kingsdown believe that customer satisfaction is very important. We honor our warranty policies and stand by our craftsmanship. From the photos submitted by ***, the boxspring, which is constructed from metal and wood, has been noticeably damaged and crushed at the end. The mattress shows visable signs of massive abuse. We are not sure how this damage was inflicted, but it is not normal wear and tear typical of our sleep products. Our warranty states that we do not cover damage to mattresses or foundations caused by abuse. However, as a service to Ms., would would like to try and help rectify the situation. We would be willing to offer a significant discount on a new boxspring, since the damage is not repairable. We will repair the mattress at no cost as a gesture of good faith. As per our warranty, Ms. would be responsible for the freight costs to transport the mattress to and from our facility in Calgary. We would be pleased to send her plastic bags at no charge in which to transport the mattress, as well as offer options for carriers which can facilitate the transportation. We trust that you understand our position and hope that this will be a satisfying resolution for Ms..Regards, ***CEO & President

Customer Response • May 08, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)This is NOT satisfactory. This bed is two years old, this is the second box spring which has collapsed, the first one was replaced without question through ***. Kingsdown is claiming we abused the mattress and boxspring, I am just wondering how they think we did this, unless sitting on the end of the bed is abuse. Why would they replace it the first time if now they are claiming abuse? As for the mattress it is collapsed as well, there is no way it is repairable and asking us to ship it to them at our cost is ridiculous. We should not be punished because we purchased this product at *** and since *** is no longer in business they will not honour the same level of warranty. The fact is that on the Kingsdown website they actually tell customers to try to make a claim through their credit card company first. So basically they want my credit card company to pay for their defective product. (I did contact my credit card company and they will not cover this since it is still under warranty.)For them to have this on their website tells me that they are not a reputable company. We will not pay shipping for this product and frankly the only response I am willing to consider is a refund or credit at ***.I am not expecting a favourable response, so I will take the loss and make sure that everyone I know and meet understands that Kingsdown is not a reputable company and does not honour its warranty.Thank you

I purchased a luxury Kingsdown set that was deemed defective by Kingsdown Canada 3 times in the first 4 years, due to body impressions greater than 1.5 inches. It was replaced 3 times and within another 16 months the same happened again. I contacted both the retailer and Kingsdown about this and was told it would no longer be replaced, but only repaired since I already had 3 replacements. I was instructed to send my mattress directly to Kingsdown at my cost and to make other sleeping arrangements for 2-3 weeks while I waited for the repair, which will only lead to the same issue again within the next year. This mattress set is poorly constructed, failing 4 times in the first 5 years.
