Kindersley Trailers Inc. Reviews (1)

When I talked to [redacted] on the phone about wanting to buy an inexpensive used camper trailer, he said that he had one that he could sell to me for $6,000. I asked if I gave him a $4, 000 payment could I make payments on the $2, 000 to pay it off. He said "Yes we just do it as a rental agreement and when you paid all the money I will sell the trailer to you for $1.00." When I arrived at Kindersley Trailers in Kindersley, Sask., he did not have the trailer in his yard. I had to rent one of [redacted]'s trucks in order to get the trailer from people that live near [redacted], Alberta. Then [redacted] changed the price of the camper trailer to $7, 000. He made me pay for his rental insurance on the trailer that cost $944. I paid a $4, 000 deposit. [redacted] set me up to make 7 monthly payments of about $642 at 10% interest. That meant I was to pay $800 interest for a total cost of $8500 ($7,700 with gst and pst plus the $800 interest). [redacted]. I asked if I could get some of the interest money back because I am paying for it in 5 weeks not 7 months and he refused to give me any of the $800 back because that pays for making sure everything works on the trailer. on the trailer[redacted]Desired SettlementThe real value of the 1993 [redacted] travel trailer is $5, 000 so I should have only paid $6,600 for it with taxes, the price [redacted] stated when we talked on the phone. I should get about $600 back from the interest they were charging. The total cost should not have exceded $7, 200. I should get a refund of about $1300.Business Response When I first talked to [redacted] on the phone, we discussed the different units we had available, however, he didn't seem to be interested in any of these. I told him about a customer of ours who was thinking of bringing his trailer in on consignment. It would probably be about $6,000 - $7,000. I told [redacted] I would contact the owner to see if he still wanted to sell his unit which he did, however, he was too busy to bring it in at the time. When [redacted] came in we discussed the trailer and I showed him pictures of the unit that were emailed to me. I told him the best we could do was $7,000.00. He was in a hurry to get something because he'd gotten a job in town and needed a place to live. I said if he was interested he could put down a $500.00 deposit, rent our truck, go look at the trailer, and if he liked it, he could bring it back to Kindersley that day. I made arrangements with the owner to let [redacted] pick up the trailer if he wanted it. If he didn't like the trailer, he could leave it there and I would give him his deposit back.To explain the price of $7,000.00, the owner of the trailer wanted $6,000.00. We added $600.00 for profit and $400.00 for certifying the appliances and coach. We normally charge 15% plus a certification fee of $549.00. It was reduced to help him save a little money. He couldn't afford to pay for the unit in full so I explained that what we do to finance used units since the banks won't was to treat it like a lease / rent-to-own. To do this we add the interest and an administration fee to the balance owing and divide that by the number of months he wants to pay it out. It was explained to him that how we do it is similar to how leasing/rent-to-own companies do it. I calculated the payment for different terms, but it was [redacted] that wanted to have it paid off by June so I calculated the payments accordingly. Since this was the option he chose, we purchased the trailer from the owner. He knew what his monthly payment would be, he signed the agreement and he made arrangements with the bank to have the funds transferred from his account to ours. We also had to plate the unit and put insurance on it as a u-drive. This was all explained to him as he can't plate and insure someone else's trailer. [redacted] reimbursed us for the calculated amount. When [redacted] came back with the trailer we put it in our shop right away to go over everything and test the appliances. Testing the fridge takes a minimum of 8 hours up to 24 hours to do a full test. [redacted]Around the middle of December, [redacted] called to see if he could buy out the trailer. When he came in he discussed with [redacted] that he had seen a similar trailer online for less money (approx. $5,000.00). He asked if he could return the trailer. [redacted] said no because it was purchased especially for him, but if he wanted he could leave it on consignment. He said he'd pay it out and was asked to stop back to give [redacted] time to calculate it out. When he came back in [redacted] showed him the payout and explained the amount to him. He was told this might change slightly because the refund amount for the insurance and registration was just an estimated amount. [redacted] was not completely happy with the amount so as a gesture of goodwill, [redacted] discussed with him that if he wanted an air conditioner, we could sell him one for around $500.00 (normally $1,000.00). [redacted]. He never complained to us at any time when he was in the store. [redacted] would have gladly tried to work things out with him if there was a problem, [redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)[redacted] it was a lot more than the 10% interest rate that [redacted] told me. [redacted] when I pais the amount owing on the trailer with a credit card, he should have given me at least $600 of that interest back for paying the money off so soon, but he would not give me any of that back. T[redacted]. He never mentioned at first that the trailer would be more than $6000. [redacted]. I only filed a complaint with the Revdex.com because he went too far with the $800 interest and not giving me at least $600 of that back a month later. And also, I never said what I could have paid for a different trailer. I could have paid $3500 for a camper with a new fridge and air conditioning. I would have saved $5000 compared to buyinga camper from [redacted]. [redacted] When I include renting the truck, gas, losing money on the rental insurance, paying the credit card charge and the $8, 500 for the camper, I paid $9, 000 for it. Twice as much as what it is worth. Even if [redacted] paid the seller $6, 000 for it, I paid $3, 000 more than that. [redacted] Final Business Response When [redacted] came into the store, I told him the best we could do on this trailer was $7,000.00. As a business we need to make a profit or we won't be around in the future. [redacted] was told the price, shown pictures the owner had emailed, and everything was explained to him in my office before he even went to look at the trailer. There never was $800.00 interest charged, used or calculated anywhere. There was a $400.00 interest charge plus $100.00 administration fee which was calculated on the balance owing after the deposit. As mentioned in our previous response, [redacted] was not happy with the payout amount but was offered a good deal on an air conditioner to compensate for the interest. That saving in itself would be more than enough to cover any refund for interest. Since he doesn't want to deal with us, we are willing to refund $342.85 ($400.00 interest divided by the 7 month term less one month). As far as the refrigerator not working, it probably froze up which is quite common during the winter but it's an easy fix. We know everything was working before it left here because one of the conditions [redacted] was given was that if the appliances were not working when we did our inspection, and the owner wasn't willing to pay for the repairs, then he was entitled to receive his $500.00 deposit back with no obligation to purchase the trailer. [redacted]
