K & K Import Repair Reviews (1)

Review: Our car (VW Jetta 2003 diesel) was having major issues during our road trip. It stopped changing gears, so we took it to K&K Auto Repair to have it checked out. They advised us to proceed with a transmission fluid change. When they found metal flakes in the fluid, they just changed it. We learned later that this is a sign for the need of a transmission rebuild, and not a fluid change (as this would cause more damage in the long run). A couple hours later the car was showing similar symptoms (but as we were on a road trip, we were too far down the road to go back). And just 2 weeks later, we were forced to get a complete transmission rebuild, including another transmission fluid change.

To whom it may concern:

Customer was driving across country when they noticed that the Transmission was intermittently slipping when coming over the mountains. We noticed that the fluid was discolored. We told the customer that we could drop the pan and look for material in it. The filter was partly plugged with clutch material. We spoke with the customer again about trying a flush. As we stated to the customer and on the invoice, that there may be other problems. Flush was preformed as a diagnostic step and vehicle was doing well when done and filled with new fluid, Customer chose to continue on with their trip.

We asked customer for contact information and to have the repair facility where the car is at now; to contact us. As of this point we have not received any contact information nor has the repair facility contacted us. We did contact Rex at Browns Transmissions in Billings, MT, which is one of the larger Transmission companies in this area. He feels our approach was the correct one. Please feel free to contact him. Please note that the person that is filing this claim is the owner of the car and was not on the trip, she was in Canada. Ben Johnson was the person driving the vehicle across country and was who brought the vehicle into our shop. Customer was also informed that the Transmission may need to be replaced in the near future.

I'm sure that you aware that we have been in business for 33 years. Customer satisfaction is very important to us here and we believe in treating people with fairness and being treated fairly.

Sincerely

Thank you for your response Amanda. I want to clarify that I was on the trip. The car is registered in my name and my boyfriend (Ben Johnson) and I were travelling together. We brought my car to your shop because it wouldn't shift gears. I asked for a diagnosis and best advice. Jon suggested a transmission fluid change - which he did. Jon told me that he had found metal flakes in the fluid. My research shows that metal flakes in the transmission fluid indicates that the transmission needs to be further diagnosed. Several hours after we left your shop, we still had issues with the car shifting gears. Two weeks later we had to get the transmission completely rebuilt and pay for another transmission fluid change. Ultimately, within several weeks we had to pay for 2 transmission fluid changes. Had your shop diagnosed that the metal flakes in the transmission fluid indicated that the transmission was malfunctioning, we would have had you rebuild the transmission thus saving us the cost of a second transmission fluid fee. We indicated that we were spending several months travelling the States and at no time did anyone suggest that the transmission needed immediate work.

I appreciate that you have been in business for so long and have a good reputation. It is one of the factors that caused us to come to your shop. We trust this issue can be resolved fairly.

Thank you
