Heatspan Preventative Maintenance Service, Inc.

Review: I received a direct mail advertisement for boiler and furnace cleaning. Since the mailer described the service as "preventative maintenance" for only $39.95, I made an appointment to safeguard my heating unit for the winter. After performing the basic cleaning, the technician informed me that my boiler was old and should be replaced. They quoted me $13,000 and recommended that I perform the replacement right away. I told them that I would get another quote first. Later that day my heat stopped working completely. I notified the company right away, but they didn't send a technician until the next day. I was told that something wasn't connected properly, but that a [redacted] would have to come and make the repair. A few hours later the [redacted] came and wanted to charge me $425 for plugging in the pilot safety switch, which I refused to do since I never had a problem until after they performed the maintenace. The [redacted] was very arrogant and left with my furnace still not producing any heat. I am a senior citizen with diabetes and COPD and was stuck in freezing temperatures. The next day I called another plumber who came recommended from my friend. He installed a new ignition kit for $350 and told me that my furnace can still last another two years before replacement would be necessary. I truly feel like Heatspan engages in bait and switch selling tactics by advertising a low cost cleaning only so that they destroy your unit and try to upsell you with an overpriced replacement that wasn't necessary to begin with.Desired Settlement: While would like to be reimbursed for the $45 I paid for the preventative maintenance that was never performed properly in addition to the $350 I had to pay another plumber to repair the damage that Heatspan created.
