Hanco Motors Reviews (11)

Anyone who buys a car from this dealer without having a qualified mechanic inspect it first (while you are present) is a fool.

Purchased a 1969 firebird from Hanco Motors. Drove 800 miles round trip. Stayed overnight at hotel with family. Looked at car, everything seemed ok besides transmission leak which salesman said they would address. Went into sales office to settle on a price. As we were deciding salesman said they do a per inspection on the car and they look over everything. What he didn't tell me is they don't fix anything or tell me what is wrong with car. If would have told me this important information I would have left a deposit and had paid a mechanic to go over whole car write up a estimate of all repairs before I made an offer. Feel it was very dishonest on there end. After receiving car, had car three days. Took family out on first road trip, made it 10 miles before noises from the engine. Pulled over right away and turned car off. Waited 3 and half hours for a towtruck. After getting car home, and pulling value covers off, my mechanic said top half if motor needs to rebuilt. After further inspection of the car found battery leaking acid all over, horn and reverse lights not working. Text Gary the owner with my concerns and said he wasn't there was deal was made so kept pushing back to salesmen I dealt with. I figured the owner should know if I was unhappy he might do something or at least a call to resolve problem, but NO, just had his salesman read me his disclaimer word for word. Nobody offered me anything. I didn't realize a was purchasing a project car. If you are such a " reputable company" you should get your cars checked out before putting them on your showroom floor. I spent $25000 for a car that made it 10 miles. Now I need to spend a lot more to it running again and so it would just pass inspection. This is ridiculous! Will do everything I can on social media to make sure everyone knows what kind of company you run. Thanks for making my dream of owning a classic muscle car a nightmare.

I paid $35,000 for a car they assured me had no problems. After receiving it, the muffler blew out, the carberator was leaking, the brakes felt like they were going to lock up, the front seal on the transmission was leaking, the fan blade hits the radiator, the radio and tachometer didn't work as they said, and the air conditioning controls did not work properly. Of course, they offered to take the car back (I would have to pay another $1,500 for shipping) and they said once they checked it out, they would issue a refund. Check it out? Does that mean they would deduct money for the things I found wrong, because they didn't? WTF? BUYER BEWARE!

Purchased my dream car from Hanco. while I knew the condition is as is with no warranty but, I'm already up $8000 in much needed repairs. the last was the distributor. It was all rusted out and not running now. please have your cars inspected before buying from here. They don't disclose all the issues with the cars. Again, have the car inspected!

They are very untrustworthy!

My Family and I purchased a vehicle and I traded in a vehicle, I purchased the vehicle sight unseen, we were drawn to the vehicle after doing long research and identify this our dream car. I decided on this vehicle because it was described as "numbers matching motor " after receiving as I would do with any classic I had serviced and put money into it in the first 2 weeks because it is my dream car. I started to research the "numbers matching advertisement " and inquired and was given where to find the placement of the numbers. I could not find any numbers matching as advertised and than the owner admitted a mistake or oversight was made. I asked for reimbursement for the difference in cost of the illegal claim, but was told all that could be done would be to return the vehicle and my trade. The owner explained it is their stance never to compensate but to return the vehicle. I could not return the vehicle because of money already invested and a love for it by child who is not able to comprehend it is not what it was advertised to be. I learned you are kind of at a loosing fight to seek an attorney because of costs and what your return be may and since an offer is made to return , you don t have much ground to stand on. I suggest when purchasing a vehicle on the internet and you don t see in person and verify things like numbers and documentation you risk to loose in your investment. I in deciding to keep the vehicle because of interest and not loosing already invested money found it sad that the owner never even to offer a gift card or anything even though he admitted the false advertisement or claims oversight ? If you are not able to see your purchase or in person don t trust this dealer.

This classic Chevrolet Camaro is guaranteed to turn heads. The black deluxe interior in this Camaro isvery nice as well. All trim and glass are in great condition on this car as well. As for the driveline, this 68 Camaro has a 338ci smallblock Chevrolet stroker engine coupled with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, 12 bolt GM POSI rear axle and housing, powersteering and power front disc brakes. This car is in great condition. Classic muscle car appeal, straight body and solid undercarriagemake this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS Style car a fun automobile for any Classic GM muscle car enthusiast. More details below.---------------------------I also ordered an mechanical inspection to make sure that even that vehicle is being purchased from a established seller I will minimize the risk checking this. The inspection was performed by [redacted] who confirmed very good condition. After vehicle was delivered to Poland via Sea container shipment, it was discovered that it has multiple major problems including the paint, exhaust, engine etc. I have an independent inspection with multiple photos showing the problems THAT were NOT disclosed at the sale and are proving that the sellers description was NOT TRUE.Desired Settlement: I'd like to return the car to the dealer and get the full refund.

Response:

This is our response to the person in Poland that purchased the car from [redacted] in Florida as well as our response to the [redacted] complaint.

[redacted] had his customer from Poland send us an email directly and this is our response to him this morning 7 / 31 / 2014

Hello sir,

I'm very sorry to hear that you’re not satisfied.

[redacted] initially contacted us about the 68 Camaro via email then a brief discussion on phone about the car and the price, he then negotiated the price down to 26,000. He then expressed that he was interested in purchasing the car at that price plus shipping. He then said he was going to find an inspection company in the area to do an inspection for him and he asked if we had anyone that we used. We expressed at that point that we do not have any specific inspection companies that we use, he was told to go online and look for inspection companies in our area, two days later he called and said he could not find an inspection company in the area, I was very surprised by that, I don't think he tried very hard because there are several inspection companies online. I mentioned to him that we had a business card that an inspector left with us a while back while he was here to do an inspection for another client and I ask if he wanted the phone number and he expressed that he did want the phone number. [redacted] was given the phone number to contact the inspector directly and he expressed that he would ask what type of inspection he does and then decide if he wanted to use his services. We did not recommend that he use this inspector nor do we have any affiliation or connection with this inspector what so ever. [redacted] contacted the inspector directly via phone and he chose to use that inspector solely on his own and he had the opportunity to ask that inspector what type of inspection that he does, it is 100% the responsibility of the purchaser to find and choose their own inspector, we do not recommend any specific inspector or inspection companies, we leave that up to purchaser. In this case [redacted] had several days to find an inspection company to do the job.

You sir purchased the car from [redacted], not our company, you did not purchase the car through [redacted] as you stated in an earlier email, and you purchased it directly from [redacted]. We never knew of, nor spoke to you prior to this email, the car was purchased and sold to [redacted] without us having any knowledge of you. All of the paperwork including the bill of sale, AS IS disclaimer and title was all done in the name of [redacted]. Again it is 100% the responsibility of the purchaser to determine if the car he's purchasing for himself or his client is the quality that the client is looking for and expects. In this case it's very clear to me that Mr. [redacted] at [redacted] purchased an entry level driver quality car and you were expecting a higher end show quality car. We never expressed that the car was in excellent condition, that is a statement from the inspection company not us, if you read the description in the initial ad it says the car is in great condition and that was our opinion when the car was in our possession. Based on the level and quality of a driver quality car in the United States, you get a car that looks good, runs and drives good but will some degree of wear and tear. It is a 45-year-old used car that is sold AS IS, not a fully restored car. We did not mislead or hide anything from [redacted], we had limited email and phone discussions with him about the quality of the car. He could have chosen any inspection company and he chose to use Mr. [redacted]. If you go online there's many to choose from within an hour of our facility. We do not build cars or have a service facility. We purchase and sell classic used cars starting at entry-level quality and up to mid-level quality. Again this is a situation where [redacted] should have identified with you what you were looking for and went out and found you the quality of car that you were looking for.

In closing [redacted] chose the car and purchased it, he also chose the inspection company to do the inspection and then sold the car to you. If he chose the wrong car and the wrong inspection company, that is 100% his responsibility not ours. If you are unsatisfied you need to take up your issues with the company that you purchased the car from and that would be [redacted] not us. If [redacted] is unsatisfied with the inspection company that he chose, he needs to take that up directly with them not us.

If you ([redacted]) would have had the car shipped to Florida and notified us with in the 24 hours that you were unsatisfied with the car, we would have gladly taken the car back for an exchange. But you instead chose to have the car shipped to a port in New Jersey and then sent from there to Poland.

Below is our general policies, and this is clearly stated on each individual ad,

We offer in exchange policy and the guidelines are as follows:

Review: I recently purchased a 1968 Camaro from Hanco. After viewing the photos and video of the vehicle and having a lengthy conversation with [redacted], the owner, I gave the $500 deposit. In full disclosure, I live in AZ and a friend of mine had purchased a vehicle from Hanco and was satisfied so, I felt comfortable moving forward with the purchase and we agreed on a price of $27,000. I also had my stepfather who lives in Pennsylvania take a look at the vehicle. He reported that the exterior and interior of the car are in very good shape. In my conversation with [redacted], he stated he inspects the vehicles and ensures they are in good running condition and assured me I would be very happy with the car. I received shipment of the car via motor carrier ($1300) on 8/11/14. After checking the oil level I and giving the vehicle a cursory inspection, I started the engine and almost immediately smelled raw gas, indicating the engine was running very rich. This is usually fixed easily but I was disappointed that Hanco didn't address it. I then proceeded to drive the car; the power brakes stopped the car but, you had to press very hard on the pedal. I was able to drive a total of 12 miles when the car stalled and I had to push it to the side of the road. A friend came to jump the battery and I was able to get back home. Here's what I uncovered: Battery cable was fried, distributor cap/electrode was fried and completely rusted under the cap and the clamp was missing, the vacuum hose to the power-brake booster was disconnected(!),the entire undercarriage is coated with a sealant and covers the threads of the tie-rods, the ignition switch needs replacing, the radio does not work, the defroster lever isn't connected to anything. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor, replaced/connected the vacuum line and was able to drive the car 8 miles before it stalled again and had to be towed bak to my house. [redacted] assured me that the engine had approx. 3000 miles on it which I now find to be untrue.Desired Settlement: I've requested a small refund of between $1000-$1500 to have the engine and electrical system evaluated and repaired by a mechanic. Hanco refused (no apologies, by the way) but they offered to buy back the car but I would have to pay for shipping! After paying for shipping, sales tax (to register) and ship back, I would have wasted $4200!! I don't think it's unreasonable for me to expect a running vehicle for the $27,000 purchase price!

Response:

I’m very sorry to hear you’re having issues with the car.

While the car was here it was running and driving great with no issues. It started and idled great every time and was started and drove right on the truck. I’m sure the car was started and moved multiple times on the truck during the 5 to 7 days that it took to get from PA. to AZ. It’s very possible that while the car was in possession of the trucking company that they could have drained the battery down and then put a jump box on it to try to get the car started. If you turn a car over and try to start it for too long or to many times it will overheat the battery terminals, cables, starter and ignition system and cause damage to the terminals, cables, starter and ignition system.

As we stated on the phone, we do not give money back for unforeseen repairs. I’m very sorry but once the car leaves our possession we cannot be responsible for things that may or may not go wrong with the car, especially during transportation.

We pride ourselves on our reputation and that’s why we have an exchange policy that’s very clearly stated on our website, if you’re unsatisfied for any reason with the car you purchased, we will exchange it. In this case we went over and above and offered to refund the full purchase price that you paid for the car and buy it back from you. You will not find another dealer in our industry that will offer either one of these services.

Instead you stated that you liked the car, the car was exactly what you were looking for and wanted to keep it, but you wanted us to pay for repairs that you claim it now needs. And again when the car was in our possession everything was working as it should and running and driving great. Why would we send a car out knowing that it had something wrong with it and offer an exchange program and or offer to refund your purchase price? If there was something wrong with the car when it was in our possession we would have addressed it prior to sending it to a customer thus avoiding this type of situation. We also have a classic car warranty available for all of our cars that could have been purchase separately. You mentioned taxes, If you were having issues with the car the day you received it I’m not sure why you would register the car and pay the taxes?

Review: I responded to an ad for a 1966 Nova on line. I spoke to Gary Hankinson the owner of Hanksters. Gary gave me, what was said to be a complete description of the condition of the 1966 Nova that I was interested in. From his description of the car, I gave him a $500 deposit to hold the car. I bought round trip air tickets, made hotel and car rental reservations to go to Pa. To inspect the car. Gary's description did not represent the condition of the car ie. rust under paint, crack in dash pad, engine vibration into car, car would not stay running at stop street, hesitation upon acceleration, runs in paint finnish. Gary's explanation was that he examined the car in a dark room with a flash light. I spent over $600 in air fare, hotel, and car rental on his description to see the car, only to be disappointed. I ask Gary to refund my deposit, he said NO. I felt that Gary should have returned my deposit because of his incomplete disclosure of the condition of the car.Desired Settlement: I would like my $500 deposit returned.
