Review: One of our insured’s had her obviously totaled vehicle picked up from the scene of an accident as per the use of Gil's Collision as a police department affiliated tow company. The shop became increasingly difficult to deal with, even calling in the claim with us directly against our insured's wishes. When we finally got the vehicle released to be picked up by our storage free salvage vendor (an incredible hassle which involved providing several catastrophic charges), the vehicle was turned in with the passenger side doors shoved into the back seat (indicating a tear/break down of the vehicle has begun). As our insured and her son, the driver who was involved in the accident and knew where the car was being taken, claim that neither of them authorized a tear down on the vehicle (they both knew it to be totaled.)
We confirmed with [redacted] (our storage free vendor) and with the direct tow bills that the charges they accrued were for:
$125.00 TOWING, $25.00 CLEAN UP, $100 IN DOOR STORAGE, $25.00 X 2 DAYS
STORAGE, $100 FOR 5 DAYS SOTRAGE
$700 BREAKDOWN AND $75.00 ADMIN
TOTAL WITH TAX: $2,348.80
-----
SECOND TOW FOR $200.00
TOW OUT- 75.00
-----
Additional multiple tows and $700 in break down of the vehicle would not have been authorized or necessitated by the shop unless at the owners request. As such, we placed numerous calls to Gil's to request they provide the paperwork that authorized these processes. Gil and his staff refused to provide these documents, though claimed they had them on file and would forward them (numerous times).
At this time, we require proof that a tear-down/break down of the 2009 Honda Accord was authorized, and reason for the additional tows that were not authorized by our insured.Desired Settlement: We require proof of the authorizations for the charged procedures, or will require reimbursment for the $700 in labor/tear down/break down and the additional $275 in unexplained tow fees.
