Broilermaster Model # [redacted], Warranty information
We have a Broilmaster Grill, Model # [redacted], Serial # [redacted].
Technically, we have had the grill for about 5 years. However, we lived in the city at the time and only moved out to the suburbs in 2011. The grill has only been assembled and used for 18 months. The prior 3+ years, it sat in its box indoors.
This past weekend, I was using the grill and a flame shot up from the middle burner. Upon inspecting today, I noticed the burner is completely rotted out. The left burner has a significant crack in it. Also rotted out is the area perpendicular to the burners, where the gas travels. The porcelain cast iron grates are also in rough shape. Also, the grill is always covered using the Broilermaster cover.
I contacted Broilermaster via email immediately and was told:

You may call our parts department at XXX-XXX-XXXX to place a warranty order. This is probably the best course of action, since the SBG is a "Superb by Broilmaster" and unfortunately, our supplier in China is no longer in business. We can only honor warranty claims as long as we have stock, and the parts department is the best source to check on that.

Upon speaking with the parts person, he mentioned some parts were available, but the area that is perpendicular to the burners that I mentioned above was not available. That was part of the grill housing that is no longer available. Even better, he told me that "maybe a welder could make a part for you." This is part of the same grill housing that has a LIFETIME WARRANTY."
The gentleman I spoke with told me why the parts are no longer available. The reason? The grill was made in China and the quality just wasn't very good. I asked "Have you had a lot of complaints about this?" "Yes" was his reply!
So, we get what we think is a premium grill. Advertised lifetime warranty on most parts, they even advertise "The most durable grill known to man," but I should go out and get a welder because they made a grill that turned out to be cheap China garbage and they [redacted]'t feel like backing their promises.
I have never experienced anything like this in my life to be honest. Most companies that make higher end products backed with strong warranties actually back their products. I'm thinking Weber, the grill I wish we had chosen instead.
