Review: My [redacted] has done business with this jeweler for many years. When I lost a diamond out of my diamond and sapphire ring he brought it to them to replace the diamond and have the points on the ring checked and repaired if necessary. He gave me the repaired ring as as a Christmas present. I wore it the first time after the repair on New Year's Eve. A week later I noticed the new diamond was now missing (same setting of the ring). My husband brought it into the store and they agreed to replace the diamond. He then gave me the repaired ring on Valentine's Day. I put it on the next day (Friday, Feb [redacted])in the morning. The following day (Saturday, February[redacted]) while reading the newspaper, I noticed a white mark on my ring. I thought it was a piece of lint. Upon further examination, I found a chip out of my sapphire (center stone near the diamond that was replaced) and a crack across the stone. I have worn this ring for 5 - 10 years and the crack was not in the stone prior to the repair (The crack can be seen with the naked eye in the sunlight). The owners will not take responsibility for the cracked stone. They tried to negociate a deal where they would pay half and I would pay half on the cost of a new stone. They also admitted that they make 500 percent profit on their sales. Therefore I would be paying for the damage that they caused and their profit on the cost of the stone would alleviate any cost to them. They advised me that the cost of the stone would be upward of $500 (depending on the quality of the stone) and that I would be responsible for one half of the cost.Desired Settlement: I feel the jeweler should replace the cracked stone at equal quality.

Response:

My family and I have owned and operated E C Jewelry for 26 years. We've offered white glove service to all of our customers at all times without exception. Mrs.[redacted], claims are completely preposterous and unfounded. The condition of her sapphire and diamond ring was already documented on our envelope and her claim ticket at the time of drop off.

Mr. [redacted] brought in a sapphire and diamond ring of "5 to 10 years" purchased from Macy's for repair back in Nov/Dec 2012. At which time it was severely damaged beyond normal wear and tear for several reasons:

1) missing a diamond
