Curtis runs a professional company and we look forward to working on new projects together!

McVeigh Mechanical was hired to complete the hook-up/connection of 2 bathroom sinks, 1 shower & 1 free standing tub to water/waste lines & connect 1 kitchen pot filler to water supply (which they had originally done all the rough-in plumbing). During these installations the free standing *** tub was damaged. McVeigh was supplied with pictures of the damage, he concluded it was a warranty issue and he would send a rep from *** tubs to our home (which he never did) but he still wanted the entire invoice paid right away. His billing invoice was incorrect, charging far too much for supplies & labor time. The plumber that was doing the installation had a lot of trouble trying to install the tub because an island drain had not been installed initially (even though we provided one) which resulted in many extra hours of labor and many additional parts were used in his efforts to install the tub. I told McVeigh that I would gladly discuss and settle the bill once the damage was corrected and his invoice was adjusted to reflect true costs, to which he became irritated & told me after 2-3 phone calls that "he's washing his hands of the whole matter and he would just write it off". I contacted the tub manufacturer directly and forwarded the same pictures to them & they concluded it was in fact an installation error and the damage to the tub was the result of over tightening of the faucet and it was not covered under warranty. During all of my conversations with McVeigh he never once considered that the damage caused was his responsibility even though when he asked me initially what I thought the problem was I suggested that possibly over tightening may have been the cause, this was before contacting the manufacturer. His complete lack of customer service at least in regards to this situation has forced me (us) to seek remediation in whatever way we can, this is a first step.

Initial Business Response /(1000, 12, 2018/03/22) */
After completing the job Allan called me and informed me that there was hairline fractures in the acrylic tub around the faucet. As part of my good customer service and standard policy I offered to remove the faucet and repair the tub at my cost although I didnt believe McVeigh had done anything wrong. To me the thought of overtightening onto a solid fibreglass deck seams highly unlikely and undertightening would cause a loose faucet down the road and an unhappy customer. It seemed to me like the tub damage could be a manufacturers defect or someone bumped the faucet during or after installation but this couldnt be confirmed. Allan wasnt happy with my proposal to repair the tub and wanted a new tub and not a repair. Repair of bathtubs is industry standard. Even if *** deemed it a manufacturers defect In my experience their only offer would be to repair the tub and never offer a replacement.

I then called *** warranty department to schedule a site visit so they could look into the warranty. After I did this I sent Allan an invoice for all the work done including sinks, shower, potfiller, toilet and the above mentioned tub. Allan complained about the cost of parts and labour in the invoice. I gave him a materials and labour breakdown. Allan thinks we should have installed an island tub drain. These drains are typically not used on this style 2 piece freestanding tub. Allans complaints about length of time to install a freestanding tub are not warranted b/c his 2.5 hour expectation is a speculation and every tub installation time may be different based on a case by case basis and this job was being billed by the hour.

Allans decision to not accept my original more than fair offer to repair the tub that I dont believe I damaged, complaints about time billed on a time and material agreement and unwarranted mistreatment of me are the reasons I decided it was best for me to not deal directly with Allan any longer.

In conclusion,
My original offer would take 6 hours of labour @ $80 per hour to remove the tub and faucet and re-install after the repair by an acrylic repair person designated by ***. The *** repair if *** wouldnt cover it would typically be $150. Therefore I would offer Allan to take $630 off of his outstanding overdue invoice subtotal of $1587 (not including interest charges).

Thank you

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 14, 2018/03/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Mr. M's response is a collection of fabrications and outright lies and makes it perfectly obvious that an amicable solution is not even remotely possible which speaks to his company's shady business practices but more importantly to his personal morals or lack there of. Thanks to *** efforts on this issue and I will now pursue other options.

Final Business Response /(4000, 16, 2018/04/10) */
I told the truth. I believe my offer was amicable and more than fair. I consider myself to have high morals and McVeigh Mechanical's hundreds of repeat customers would agree that we are trustworthy and do good business.
