Jared and Becky Toppenberg your franchise owners in the South Sound of Western Washington attempted to use their business to force a financial advantage in a personal financial situationTheir actions although legal do not reflect your corporate ethics, valuesAs a corporation that prides itself on its core values, as you read on, you will be appalled this couple represents your company in Western WashingtonTHESE CORE VALUES INCLUDE: • Community- We make a difference in the community one person, family, friend or neighbor at a time• Accountability- We do more than is expected, by our own choice, and our own will• Respect- We treat others as we would like to be treated• Excellence- We set high standards and rise to them• Service- We meet others' needs with a servant's heartIn May we placed our home of years on the marketThis home has been meticulously cared for and maintained since it was built for us as the first ownersPeople have told us they would walk or drive - out of their way - to go by our beautiful homeThe Toppenbergs, neighbors just down the street, showed an early interest and informed our realter they intended to make a greatly diminished offerAfter a couple of weeks, they made a more reasonable offer, we countered, they counter offered, and we acceptedAll seemed benign until we proceeded In Washington state the homes are appraised for buyers to receive a loan and the buyer can hire an inspector to evaluate the structural integrity of the homeThis all was done as is appropriateHowever, MrToppenberg took an unwarranted stepWithout making any form of request or even a simple notification, he brought the mold appraisal business into our homeHis actions merely seemed excessively thorough at first but over the next few days became very clear Your website states that AdvantaClean requires approval from landlord or homeowner to provide the inspectionMrToppenburg did not have our, the home owners, approvalAfter the inspection, which is included in the attachments, they made requests for accommodations with inflated estimates to close the saleWith this we were provided a copy of his inspection but not that of the state licensed, professional inspectionBased upon his flawed, snap-shot-in-time, assumptions his accommodation requests would cost us thousands of dollarsWe refused and asked for a copy of the actual building inspectionWe received the formal inspection finallyTheir realtor Shane Klinkhammer stated that if the sale didn’t work out we would now have to disclose the house has a mold issue The Toppenbergs are not aware we had our home pre-inspectedOur inspector started his career in roofing, became a general contractor and now is a state licensed building inspectorWith years of experience he has a very solid reputation for thorough evaluationsHis inspection is also attached along with the inspection the Toppenburgs solicitedThe licensed professionals’ reports do not reflect the Toppenberg’s level of negativityPlease take this time to review both our pre-inspection, the formal inspection and MrToppenberg’s inspectionAfter which I will address the errors in his evaluation and unfortunately his, I suspect, intended personal benefit of the evaluation He misrepresents by omission and exaggeration of informationFirst, note that the living spaces were considered “a healthy indoor air quality”Conversely, he didn’t check the air quality where he reports “mold growth”This is the omissionHow do you report mold “growth” with a static image? A snap shot in time? How can you state mold is growing without some form of progressive evaluation or an air sample showing the presence of mold spores? How does he or anyone else know when mold grew? Is it new or did it grow years ago when the house was drenched with rain during construction before the roofing went on? Was it abated years ago, and he is viewing a black stain? His conclusion of growth or developing mold are presumptive at bestThey also quoted an estimate to fix squeaky floors for $(our realtor received bids of $and $700.00)Our pre-inspection shows moisture level of 25% in the bathroom, Toppenburgs 95% and his licensed inspection only says high without showing a number Is this just an exaggeration or a strong-arm tactic to force a financial concession? We were concerned about placing the home on the market after this event would affect the market valueSome would just call this episode “Just playing hardball.” I call it ethical misconductI call it bullyingI call it a threat to devalue our houseIs this your corporate core value? We didn’t play the game or buckle under to the threatWe made concessions based upon the professional, licensed inspection and the legitimate bids only and finally closed the deal I understand MrToppenberg is a veteran and has a sterling reputationWell, so am I, and so do II served for years and continue to serve as a civilian employeeAs a physician assistant I cared for soldiers on continentsI continue to care for soldiers and their familiesMy wife an occupational therapist with the VA cares for our vets helping them seek and achieve a better quality of lifeAs a medical people we thoroughly understand ethics This is why I writing this letterBecause you need to be aware of the people who stand behind your logo in this regionThe Toppenberg’s obvious conflict of interest, blatant disregard of your corporate policy and attempt to bully us into accepting a low-ball offer does not reflect well upon your company and probably paints a more accurate picture of these individuals than the façade they have erectedIf your core values are more than mere advertising, I expect your administration will thoroughly investigate this event with us and their entire business practiceCurrent behavior, most likely, reflects his past behavior and predicts future behaviorI strongly suspect you will find this arrogant, self-serving, bulling behavior has been displayed previously

Jared and his crew are very knowledgeable and did an excellent job removing mildew and mold under our crawl spaceThey installed all new insulation and vapor barrier and did a fantastic jobI would highly recommend this business
