Review: On January 14, 2013 I took my 2002 Mazda MPV to Ace Automotive Repair, Inc. for a check engine code. They informed me that the bank 1 catalytic converter was bad and needed to be replaced. I had just purchased the vehicle on January 7, 2013 so the dealer agreed to pay for the repair. When I picked the vehicle up I requested a receipt but was only given a repair order. On April 11, 2013 I returned to Ace Automotive Repair, Inc. because the check engine light came back on. Ace claims that the code was not the same as the code that occurred in January. The supposedly new code is [redacted]. They said the bank 1 upstream oxygen sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. I paid $156.55 to replace the oxygen sensor. On May 27, 2013 (less than 2,000 miles since the oxygen sensor was replaced) the check engine light came back on reading this same code ([redacted]). On May 31, 2012 I returned to Ace Automotive Repai, Inc again and scheduled a drop off for the Mazda MPV on June 3, 2013. On June 3, 2013 Ace Automotive Repair, Inc. told us that the rear catalytic converter is bad even though the check engine code is the same as when they told us the oxygen sensor was bad. After discussing with the technician, Don, who worked on the van and reviewing our invoice and repair order he decided he needed to look into it. He said he could see that the bank 2 catalytic converter was replaced but the repair order says the right side (bank 1) catalytic converter was replaced. He said he would call me the next day, June 4, 2013 to discuss it. When his secretary called back on June 4, 2013 she stated that the catalytic converter that was replaced in January was correct. She stated that the repair order says "right side" because that is how the parts place listed the part. She also stated that when the vehicle was there in April the bank 1 catalytic converter was good and the vehicle was fine after they replaced the upstream oxygen sensor at bank 1. She stated that the bank 1 catalytic converter must have gone bad since the oxygen sensor was put in because if the sensor was faulty the check engine light would have come on sooner.Desired Settlement: I believe Ace Automotive Repair, Inc. repaced the wrong catalytic converter(bank 2) in January and would like them to replace the correct catalytic converter (bank 1).
