On 12/3/2013 D&D failed to install garage door properly. Did not pass Sarasota County Inspection. Door never worked. My calls were ignored for 2 mos.
On 11/18/2013, I purchased a hurricane rated garage door, Model 4310 W6, for $2,369.00 from D&D Garage Doors. The sales person was ****, and he was excellent. I felt very good about supporting a local business, and as D&D is an established company, I thought I was going to have a very good garage door installed. I was also very impressed with ******** at the front desk, and as a result, even made two extra trips into D&D bringing food in for their Holiday Food Drive.
On my install date of 12/3/2013, D&D sent out a fourteen year veteran employee, *****, along with a TWO DAY NEW employee. I was assured that the veteran employee would watch the new employee the entire time. Unfortunately, ***** stayed out in the side yard making phone calls, and left the new employee working unattended. Not only did ***** not supervise the new employee, he also did not inspect or even bother to check the work he did. The new employee LEFT OFF TWO hinges on an expensive hurricane rated door, causing it to fail inspection by Sarasota County. Additionally, the spacing between anchor bolts was not per install specifications. Then, ***** was in such a hurry, that he himself wired up the new door opener device to existing thirty plus year old wiring that had to be spliced and had crimps in it. As a result of the cheapsake wiring, the door opener NEVER worked properly. The garage oor would stop four inches from the top, or four inches from the bottom. Or it would randomly open and leave my garage contents visible from the street causing safety issues for me. As it was a new garage door being installed, it should have had new wiring too.
All companies make mistakes, and it is how they handle them that can make the difference between a good company and a company that is not. Had D&D quickly remedied their errors, I would feel differently about the company. However, I made NUMEROUS phone calls to ****, whom I was told was now handling my matter, and then he caused further problems with his very poor customer service and neglect. **** would not call me back as HE promised; over and over again this happened. Then, when I would have to call back, he would say that "he was busy." This went on for over two months. **** was very rude to me on several occasions. Even though I had PAID IN FULL for my garage door in December, 2013, I still did not have a door that would even pass inspection or open. On 2/11/2014, **** offered me $50.00 for "all my inconvenience." I told him that was very insulting for the two months non-use of my garage door and all the aggravation I experienced, mostly FROM HIM.
Finally, on 2/11/2014 and 2/12/2014, another employee, ****, came out to fix the door. He had to spend HOURS getting it ready to pass inspection. There were multiple issues and problems, including a bad circuit panel too. **** was also excellent, and was very apologetic for all the problems I had had. The garage door then passed Sarasota County Inspection on 2/13/2014.
